i guess this might be the best thread to ask but /mu/ who do i learn to make music? I'm an artist, albeit a mediocre one but i really love music. was always afraid to learn as a kid because i always felt i couldn't be a musician since drawing was my thing. (i was a dumb kid).
I really love music, and every day passes by that i want to learn how to express myself through it but i have no idea where to start. what do i read? what programs should i learn? what instruments are good for beginners and someone who is on the move alot? please help.

I haven't read any books in English on that subject as far as I'm aware. I did pick up "Tonal Harmony" by Kostka and Payne so you might give that a go. And in terms of DAW - FL Studio, Cubase, Ableton. Depands upon the OS you're using

https://soundcloud.com/user-659508452/it-could-be-you-deep-lo-fi-chillout-hiphop-epic
So this is the first 'lo-fi hiphop' track I've done. Pretty much got some sick as Bud Powell (my favorite jazz pianist) and layered stuff over and had some fun. Thoughts?
https://soundcloud.com/spedlord
And that is my EDM stuff, which I've been doing for 6 months or so. I've got a long way to go but I am having fun with the chord progressions and plucks. Also I am trying to incorporate dubstep synth techniques (growls and stuff) into a more 4/4 kick beat. Still learning.
https://soundcloud.com/frequenpsy-shift
That is my psytrance - specifically hi-tech darkpsy sort of stuff. I was right into that for a while.
All this is done on Ableton primarily with Serum and occassionally (when I can be bothered) using my ARP Axxe 1970s monosynth. I've been a musician since I was a kid but I've only in the last few years gotten into production.
Now, comments on some of the fellow anons stuff.
>>73391638
I like the nature ambience at the start of your first track. Usually natural sounds are cliche in electronic stuff, but this is cool. I also appreciate the subtlety of the drums in the mix.
>>73391620
I second >>73391702 not keen on the vocals, though they are mixed well. But that kick is lovely and plump. Though the hats are a bit overdone.
>>73391751
If you mixed the guitar better it would really work. I like the tone of your voice, even if it's a bit damn mopey bro.
>my perfect girlfriend
Bit lame bro. If it's so perfect, why do you sound so depressed. Also, drinking to forget meme is ridiculous (take this from someone who drinks everynight)
>>73391763
I like the ambience. Followed
>>73391755
Go on youtube, search "Ableton" "FL Studio" and see which of the two looks cooler. Then pirate a copy and use youtube tutorials to learn the fundamentals. That should take a week or so. Learn some sound design, some basic music theory and some sampling skills. Then ask /mu/ what next.

Thunder is better than Crops, you should make it the featured track. Very atmospheric and left me feeling satisfied.
>>73392677
Impressive mix of genres. Not even sure what to call it. I would love to have you sing on one of my tracks

I'm digging your sound m8. It's a very solid start to have that figured out. There's nothing inherently wrong with short tracks but I think it would be a big improvement if you had some longer tracks. Try asking yourself "if I were listening to this, what would I expect next?" and then do something different to throw your listener off and keep them interested. That's what works for me anyway.
