Check out Mogwai - Young Team. Not as orchestral as Godspeed but it's got amazing and noisy drones as well as intricate song composition. Not as heavy of a reliance on crescendo's either.

Yes there is. It's a whole genre. One band named Godspeed You! Black Emperor is a good example of this "post-rock" genre. Really interesting stuff, but it might be a little intense on your first listen
