>2012: Lil B was a meme
>2017: New rappers sound like Lil B
What went right?
he was the original meme though. He was first. First always gets ridiculed.
Too bad he was actually good too though, where meme rappers now don't have any good content period. They're just the meme only

God's Father mixtape is unironically amazing

I always lowkey liked Crank Dat
Lil B actually had a personality. Those who followed however...
This track right here is basically an XXXTentacion song, and it was from 2009!

and what the fuck is this! Who comes up with this stuff? Song and video

Lil B will be considered a legend in the future
>>73349914
too good to even bare comparison to xxxtentpoles
other than the somewhat distorted bass, this shit is way out of his league
>>73348541
Lil B was genuine about it, because he was genuinely a fucking weird dude. The guy was calling himself a fag and a lesbian, he's wearing everything was tiny pink shirts to church hats and grandma earings, naming his album "I'm Gay", and asking for pics on girls' feet on Twitter under the assumption that it's "promoting positivity" and in accordance with the cryptic (pseudo?)philosophy he claims to be the sole person knowledgeable about. But he'll still drop lines like "Shout-out to the WNBA, you got some fine ass girls I wanna fuck in the mouth." And you'll hear a song like D.O.R or Age of Information and find out he can be witty with wordplay and speak on important topics too if he wants.
These new meme rappers are just in it for the irony and fun, they're not nearly weird enough to have any real impact.
>>73350309
>asking for pics on girls' feet on Twitter
he is a hero just for that
>>73350347
I concur, good sir.
>>73350309
Lil B is truly a once in a lifetime phenomenon. I think he'll be studied in years to come.
Reminder that this song came out in 2010 and is still relevant 7 years later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=corY-FZAZog

>>73350886
His new mixtape is called the black ken mixtape and he said its like 90% done I think

Lil B is the Velvet Underground of Hip Hop.

you could argue asap rocky was the first big rapper to be influenced by him. but i'd say it started with bones. copying his massive quantity over quality way of releases.
>>73354881
>massive quantity over quality
Lil B was one of the first to take full advantage of the internet. It doesn't matter if you drop 90% shitters, as long as people have access to your 10% great tracks, you're a great musician.
>>73354901
we could also argue viper is proto lil b. but since we didn't discover him till later who knows
>>73350185
>in the future
he's already considered a legend by everybody
What is he doing now?
What happened to Lil B's rock album?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eU5PVFjsQG8
>>73354928
well I mean viper is like 99.9% shitters and his 0.01% couldn't even form a single album. At least Lil B has a good amount of bangers.
>>73355028
he realized rock was dead
>>73348541
Not a hip-hop fag, so I have no idea about any of this.
Was he a meme on purpose, or he did his best and people made him a meme by listening to him ironically?
Can someone give me a summary about him?
Just a basic gestalt. A quick rundown so to speak.
>>73355117
>Was he a meme on purpose
Yes. But he made his songs entertaining enough that they're actually fun to listen to, and h'd drop legit good songs every now and then. He managed to fully use the internet to his advantage and market himself very well.
>>73355164
So he was doing some kind of rap comedy?
>>73355173
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGYHEBpX2xQ
This was the song that put him on the map, it's comedy
>>73355208
I'm having a hard time seeing how this is comedy when to me it looks/sounds so similar to what so many rappers do unironically.
What makes it comedy exactly?
>>73355235
back in 2010 this was seen as a joke song. proves Lil B changed the game
>>73355311
For the worse it seems to me.
Is it generally regarded as a good thing?
>>73355164
>>73355208
no hes was in sincere in all of his songs. i don't think you understand what based means
>>73354819
bull shit give me it

>>73355789
THIS

SWAG
>>73355789
The difference is that Soulja Boy was trying to be genuine
Lil B was genuine, but he also caught on to his own meme and capitalized on it
>>73355164
>He managed to fully use the internet to his advantage and market himself very well.
Definitely, you can read 'based' on all sort of internet communities
>>73354985
Lifting curses
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk22hp80CPQ
>>73355547
He was sincere in the sense that he is genuinely just a weird guy, but stuff more traditional releases like I'm Gay and Angel's Exodus indicates to me that he definitely knew his songs like Wonton Soup, Ellen Degeneres, I Cook, and so on were more absurd.
>its another "lil b was ahead of the game" thread
thanks captain obvious
>>73351297
Nah, that would be Kool Keith
How the hell is he following over a million people on twitter
>>73356065
and before finding lil b soulja boy was making poorly done pop rap. soulja boys whole weird internet experimental phase from like 2010-2014ish is because of lil b
>>73351297
three 6 mafia honestly
>>73356035
remember when adoseofbuckley was good
>>73357103
I don't know who that is, I just used to make that joke with my cousins :c
>>73357103
What does he do nowadays? mid teens me found his worst songs of 2010 video funny but in hindsight that shit was spergy to the core
>>73348541
I heard Lil B's whole thing was that he was spreading positivity, but that was hard to believe for me since the first track I heard from him was "Fuck KD"
I'm God is the most influential hip hop song of the current decade
>>73358699
this is true
>>73357580
>>73357103
I remember subbing to him for his worst songs videos that I thought were entertaining, and coming back I find that he really just shits on pop song lyrics.
Fuck KD is a legitimately great track.
