Hey figured I would make a post outside of the /guitar/ general.
I have been playing guitar nonstop for like 6 months now and have learned pretty much how to riff with power chords and some barre chords but mainly fucking around with 2 strings and making a bunch of weird shapes.
Im starting to feel like im reaching a wall with this method of experimenting and am now just memeing my muscle memory over and over creating the same boring stuff no matter how hard I try.
For example I have been wanting to create Black Metal riffs or like melvins early stuff kinda chromatic weird heavy music, or even duster chill simple stuff. So I feel like I should turn to music theory and whatnot to better write music and im absolutely lost on where to start and how it could help.
Can anyone help me figure out where to start learning?
>TLDR: help guitar newfag who has intermediate skill ascend his limitations through theory or something pls
You're on a good track. Find some songs you really enjoy and then try to learn them, messing about and creating yourself is great but sometimes you need learn new techniques or styles or just different ways to play in general. It just adds to your bank of what you can do creatively.
