best in terms of energy in socal was deathgrips. its hard to get hipsters hype so that was great. but my favorite concert of all time was Yeah Yeah Yeahs on rooftop pool of cosmopolitan hotel in vegas. it was warm spring night and karen O fucking killed it.

Pere Ubu was amazing live. More recently xiu xiu is great

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Got to hold Nick up during Jubilee Street when he came out into the seats and it was fucking incredible. Easily the best band behind him too, especially Warren Ellis.

Tie between Best Coast and Cults. Both were openers and both were more amateurish than shitty local bands playing their first gigs.
