Metal is in a really pathetic state, it's a shell of it's former self. People today are not familiar with actual metal, so when you expose people who are not familiar with it at all to some generic garbage, naturally they aren't going to have anything to compare it to. It's a bit like how when you're a kid everyone likes slipknot, but then feels embarrassed about it when they grow up (I never went through that phase btw, I started with underground, old school black thrash and death metal.
