Ignore him, he's country, but there is a larger folk and blues influence in his work and style of playing than many other country musicians.

People on this board don't actually understand what country is. Folk is more political or traditional, and country is more personal, usually about matters of the heart.

OP this is pretty ironic considering Townes' albums being ridiculously overproduced with that 70's cosmic orchestral country style is a problem that dogged him his entire career.

For the most of his life Live at the Old Quarter album was the only thing worth a damn until they smartened up and started releasing his demos.

Anon those albums get better as they progressed but his first record was an unmitigated disaster entirely due to the over-producing. There's a reason he re-recorded all of the songs in stripped down forms on later albums.
