Rank the parts of prog songs
>2112
The Temples Of Syrinx > Overture > Soliloquy > Presentation > Oracle: The Dream > Grand Finale > Discovery
>>73196673
Pretty wrong there buddy, here's the correct ranking:
Soliloquy > Overture > Discovery > The Temples of Syrinx = Presentation > Oracle: The Dream > Grand Finale
>>73196673
>>73197946
Why no love for Grand Finale?
>>73198215
It's lacks the substance of literally every other part. It certainly is grand but, there's just not enough in it to compete with the rest.
>Tarkus
Mass>Stones of Years>Eruption>Battlefield>Aquatarkus>Iconoclast>Manticore
I favour the parts with vocals because Greg Lake is beautiful
>>73198237
Fair enough, for me that part always gives me goose bumps.
>>73197946
I don't know, other than Discovery and The Temples Of Syrinx, we put most parts in around the same area
>>73198370
Around the same area isn't good enough.
>>73196673
I've listened to 2112 hundreds of times, but I still don't know the movements by name. Same goes for Necromancer, Fountain of Lamneth, and Cygnus X-1 (books 1 and 2)
>>73199125
I never learned the Cygnus X-1 movements either
But discover is one of the best parts. It's critical to the story.
>>73198266
I don't need these tears.
>>73196673
Presentation>Discovery>Oracle>Overture>Temples
Honestly, they are all fucking great, and to take any of them out of context is difficult.
>>73199842
As important to the story as Discovery is, I just feel like it's musically the weakest
>>73198237
>ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION
How do you not cream at this part my nigga?
>>73199961
Because I care more for actual music and not a lyrical proclamation.
>>73199994
It ends the story and is arguably the greatest conclusion in prog friend.
>>73199887
What? Musically it's almost the strongest. Other than Overture, it contains the most musical variation of any of the parts. The dynamics alone are out of this world and are played upon perfectly by Geddy's vocal melody.
>>73200084
None of that is significant enough to warrant Grand Finale being held in higher regard than any of the other parts of the song. The genius of Rush is not well manifested in Grand Finale.
