So why does /mu/ hate Queen again?
A Night at the Opera is a fantastic record and pretty much all their 70s work is solid as well
/mu/ is full of contrarians
I don't like Queen for simple reason - they got all the fame Sparks deserved to have instead
Freddie is legit though
Queen is so fucking cheesy
If Seaside Rendezvous doesn't bring a smile to your face, you can kys
Sparks >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Queen
Queen is the musical equivalent of the Star Wars prequels

They can be. It's part of the fun though

Because they're popular.
It's too cheerful
Queen is like the posterband for all of those shitty le wrong generation people. This makes people who are on the opposite side of the equation fucking hate them even though 70s Queen is fantastic.
Really just terrible, terrible fanbase, even though most of those people have probably never listened to any of their good records and like trash like Hot Space.
I like early Queen, especially Queen II, and I highly admire their studio work. They take a fun, maximalist, baroque approach to mixing--often layering the guitar part like ten or twelve times. It's almost like they picked up where Briaan Wilson and Phil Spector left off. So I admire them for that.
I'm not so into "GREATEST EVAR"-style bombast or EPIC "real rawk music!!XD" so I don't go in for their live stuff as much.
Queen in the studio > Queen on the stage

Don't let normies turn you off genuinely great music.

Brighton Rock is a great example of this, love the whole dueling guitar reverb thing. The best part is all the weird shit they would do to achieve their FX because they wouldn't use Synth. Just a lot of really funky recording tricks and a guitar.
I think that's a big reason the 80s stuff is so shit. Obviously Synth is great when used well but they just used it so lazily and the production for those albums is awful.
