ehh not quite. I respect the musicianship behind this but it's a bit too metallic for me. Looking for math rock with a punk edge

The new SikTh album is online.
I'm listening to it right now and it's fucking nutty.

Dillinger Escape Plan is the greatest punk band of the 20 years they will exist and have existed, or at least a heavy contender.

You'd probably dig Thank You Scientist. Midori is also really good if you want some wacky hardcore jazz fusion. Bleach (called Bleach03 and Bleachmobile in North America) and 385 are also recommended.

The fall of troy was my favorite band for a very long time, I never found anything that could fill their shoes, even they can't fill their shoes anymore. They're boring now.
>>73139637
Well I wouldn't go THAT far, but yeah they've definitely lost something.
>>73138824
I can help you there, since that's exactly what I was into when I was younger (although CHON only had one ep out on youtube at the time). also a lot of Mars Volta and AtDI
basically you have three routes, all worth your time
>get into mathcore, modern post-hardcore and some prog metal (should be easy, this stuff is fairly homogeneous in terms of record labels and who tours with who etc.)
>get into classic post-hardcore, math rock and noise rock (might sound a bit alien at first, but it's a goldmine if you like dissonance and can appreciate music without the modern metal production sheen all over it)
>get into prog. king crimson was doing a lot of this stuff in 1973-4, and they weren't doing it as an end to itself (as in, they had an eclectic sound that will work as a gateway into a much wider range of music)
>>73139666
what made them so good was their intense energy and bottled angst that seemed to be unleashed as a flurry of creative emotion in all of their tracks. They had influence from so many genres and were afraid of no risks whatsoever. They are way more vanilla and accessible now. They seem to different from the other "hardcore" bands. Ironically, a genre I typically hate. But FoT was something different.
>>73139637
>>73139780
someone else who gets why tfot is the goat post-hardcore band. although I >>73139780
gotta say I felt their new album OK, in spite of terrible title, was a step in the right direction. I got to see them live for the first time on that tour and they mostly played Doppelganger and a couple OK tracks and it was awesome.
>>73138824
I would enjoy this much more if vocalist didn't scream retarded shit over the instruments.
I say this as someone who listens to brutal slamming death metal with pig noises.
>>73139860
yeah 401k was better than "In the unlikely event". But it was still only like a 6/10 album for me. It's okay, they will always be a special band to me.
>>73139897
man you crazy the vocals are great and complement the music perfectly
>>73140017
Honestly yeah, I loathe screaming but they somehow manage to pull it off in an odd way that works, I think it's because it kind of matches the instruments.
>>73138824

Our Daily Fix is a great dead math band

Their first EP was pretty decent since it had a lot of energy built into the music but with Stay Lost it felt like they held back too much trying to make the album mysterious only for it to end up being boring. I wouldn't be surprised if this is because Hail The Sun at the time was going in that direction with Wake which transferred over to Stay Lost later on, but both of those albums fell flat based on that execution. At the very least, I think Donovan is at his best if he plays fast songs without any of the "euphoric concepts" he writes about.
>not any deathcore
Just listen to Monobody already ffs.
Better taste? Dance Gavin Dance is legitimately one of the worst bands I've ever heard.
