Here's the thing about Mike Patton the man has some serious pipes. He has a six octave range and excelled in any octave. He writes brilliant songs. And his stage presence is only matched by Adolf Hitler. Seriously, Watch Mr. bungle play Pink Cigarette live at Bizarre Festival 2000 and then watch a video of the Nuremberg rallies. We better thank our lucky stars Mike didn't go into politics or he would have taken over the world.
But Mr. Bungle as a whole had a brilliant dynamic. It wasn't just the Mike Patton backup band. They all made huge creative contributions to what made bungle what it is.Yes Mike wrote Girls of Porn, Sweet Charity and Air conditioned Nightmare. But Trevor Dunn wrote Retrovertigo,the holy filament and phlegmatics. Trey Spruance wrote Desert Search for techno allah, None of them know they were robots and golem 2 the bionic vapour boy.
Other bands like Nirvana for instance were not like that. Nirvana was basically the Kurt Cobain backup band. Mr bungle was the perfect storm of legendary talent and Mike Patton was the face of it all. The delicious cherry on top of an already delicious sundae.
He was the ambassador that allowed the amazing talent of the combo that was Mr. Bungle. To be brought to our lives.he was the prism that focused the laser beams from the brains of Trevor, Trey, Heifetz and McKinnon and amplified them until they were powerful enough to blow out our minds through our ear holes.
Yes he is the greatest frontman who has ever lived, hands down.

Not to mention Tomahawk, his work with John Zorn, Faith No More, various voice acting roles, etc.
The man's a fucking titan for vocal diversity, not even just in his tonal range but the shit ton of styles his work encompasses. He has hundreds of "voices" each unique from each other.

You can hear that in his music. He is a finely tuned songwriting machine. Mr. Bungle is too much of a spectacle for me but Faith No More is just right.

I agree. Chemical Marriage to Desert Search is such an amazing run of songs it basically makes the album front-loaded. Phlegmatics, Backstrokin', and Platypus are the best songs of the second half.
