Has there ever been a more blatant attempt to remain relevant in music? I mean the change wasn't instantanious but still it's clear they just want to change with the trends...

But nu-metal/rap metal to straight up pop is a further departure than FOB ever did.
They kinda remind me of 30 seconds to mars. both started with their own variation of angry rock music for teens and slowly started transforming into something more beat oriented.
but 30 stm are pulling it off so well, they have great melodies and genuine passion in their music. they preserved their sound DNA. lp sound bored as fuck; they are relying on some pseudo controversy.

Linkin Park has always had electro pop in their music, it might have been a tiny amount but it was there.
Fall Out Boy's last single was a shitty dubstep song. How does a pop-punk band get there?

Same thing happened to Anberlin, but I like they're softer, more synth-oriented shit. I just think they do that better than the poppy alt-rock thing.

Luckily they didn't make this a single, if they did they would be in Maroon 5 territory

No, it was pretty fucking instantaneous considering their tone of voice on the record before it. The Hunting Party was LP actively calling rock out on its rut and was their own attempt to make a balls to the wall rock record in response to it. One More Light could not be more of a polar opposite if it tried.

Too soon?
