>"I never liked The Beatles, I never really liked any British group, I don't think the British should play rock and roll... I never took British rock and roll seriously and I still don't."

>>73059566

>prince dies

>bowie dies
zomg
>reed dies

and until this is acknowledged there will be no peace for mankind
What a douchey comment. I suspect even he didn't believe this.
>>73059616
>who?
What the fuck are you on about? My Facebook was awash with saturnine hipsters mourning his death and the media didn't ignore it either (certainly in the UK anyway).
>>73059500
>only talented member of his band was a Welsh guy
Hmmmm
he probably was just messin' around on the interviews. Probably he didn't believe that at all.
Also, Beatles > V/U
>>73059645
British rock is inferior to American rock in every way.
>>73059662
>Beatles > V/U
This is /mu/ in 2017. Pure leddit.
>>73059665
Realistically it isn't and there is both excellent rock and dire schmaltz from both countries. Try harder m8.
>>73059645
>>73059662
>“I never liked the Beatles,” Reed said. “I thought they were garbage. If you say, ‘Who did you like?’ I liked nobody.”
he clearly didn't like them
>>73059662
>>73059662
>Beatles > V/U
Yea, no.
Reed alone was more important and innovative than whole Beatles.
Beatles was generic pop rock band. TVU was truly straight forward thinking band.
>>73059665
UK prog > US prog
UK post-punk > US post-punk
UK post-rock > US post-rock
>>73059715
They were both equally innovative tho'. What Sgt Peppers and Revolver did to popular music stand in the same level of what V/U did for the rock and puck scene.
>Beatles was generic pop rock band. TVU was truly straight forward thinking band.
From here and on, it's just your opinion.
>>73059500
>Lou Reed
dead
>the United Kingdom
alive (barely)
from my point of view it is Lou Reed that is the loser
>>73059715

>>73059765
Everything "innovative" you there's in Revolver, Zappa did first with Freak Out.
Beatles is good, I like them, but they wasn't innovative.
>>73059500

You are a RollingStonedrone then
>>73059780
are you sure that UK isn't a zombie though
from my point of view undead is worse than dead so Lou Reed is the winner again
>>73059566

True
The other two are fag genres only homos care about so I guess it would only be natural the british excel at them.
>>73060715

>>73060715
>The United States of America
My nigga
>>73059840
The genius of The Beatles isn't on innovation. They weren't innovative or experimental in the purest sense, because all they did, they did it with a commercial appeal in mind. What they wanted to do was to experiment with the pop genre and making damn good songs while at it. as they were amazing songwriters too. If it sounds generic it´s because everyone modeled themselves after The Beatles.
If you judge them solely on their experimentation, you are a moron.
>>73059840
I think you accidently your english Ranjit.
Still Beatles>VU
>>73059713
>I liked nobody
damn................................
>>73059734

>>73061073
Bob Dylan said that I Wanna Hold Your Hand was groundbreaking stuff in 1964, it blew him away at the time.
>>73059656
>>73060435
Have you even acknowledged the amazing drums on TVU songs? You fucking retarded mate?
Lou Reed said the truth about Christgau anyway.
>>73059500
please come back lou, and bring bowie with you
Lou generally seemed to hate all of his contemporaries, if you take his interview comments at face value (which you shouldn't do).
But there are times when he's laudatory of other musicians. For instance in this audio clip he's praising The Ramones (who he had just heard for the first time):
https://youtu.be/t-f2rz2G9AI?t=77
>>73061199
Wasn´t it their first US tv appearence too? That should have been gigantic at the time.
What i find the most admirable about them is how all of their music can be enjoyed in a very superficial way, but also if you examine more closely their songs, you'll see too how much of a genius they were, though it also gives the chance to edglords to brand as merely generic pop. They had that balance of being extremely popular and having amazingly good music.
They arenpt the biggest artist on the oworld for nothing
>>73061464
>They aren't the biggest artist in the world for nothing
to be fair there are comparably popular artists who really did not have complex or "genius" music (Elvis, The Eagles, Garth Brooks, Madonna). popularity is not really a useful indicator for artistic merit
>>73059662
>>73059500
But what about John Cale?
Lou you fucked up there son
>>73061152
No it isn't
>>73059500
You might've gotten dubs but these opinions are spouted but a dead jew fag who went through electro-shock therapy so he'd stop being a cock sucker and went on to fuck a German nazi ice queen and be managed by a hack who thought painting reproductions of tomato soup labels were "Art". And then puts out a two record set of nothing but feed back and calls it "Rock and Roll"! Who the fuck pays attention to this dead talentless hack anyway?
Fuck The Velvet Underground!
This is who they wanted to be!
The Velvet Underground were posers while The Fugs were the real deal! (And picture posted came out THREE YEARS BEFORE the "Banana Peel" album!)
>>73061976

He seemed to rip off the Rolling Stones enough on VU&N tho
>>73059616
There was news reports on fucking GMA when he died.
>>73062186
Those genres were all perfected by British artists, who then took them in interesting new directions.
>>73061310
where those two the biggest loss in the last decades?
I feel the same when a British tries to rap
>>73063406
I'd say Prince is on the same level, but those were definitely the biggest.
