ITT: Most overrated artists of their genre and why they are

I'll start with rap

2Pac is the most overrated rapper because he made a gabajillion shitty songs in his lifetime (like holy shit, it's been over 20 years and they're still releasing posthumous stuff) and after he dissed Biggie he got a huge spike in sales, leading to the most boring and uninspired album ever ("All Eyez On Me") selling a shitton because it had all the Biggie disses and everyone wanted to hear them. Now he's considered to be the best rapper of all time because 7 of his 40,000,000 songs he wrote in his career were about his mother, poverty, and politics. He was also a black panther, rapist, and shot a toddler in the head but is still seen by a martyr and shines above in the rap world and is consistently crowned as 'the best' despite having mediocre at best lyricism and lackluster production on most of his songs. He repeatedly reused lyrics in the laziest of ways ('i'm sippin hennessey runnin from my enemies' 'i'm a black male makin crack sales') and is overall boring to listen to. If you've heard a 2Pac album, you have legitimately heard every single one.

His fans are also excessively rabid and will always scream about how 2Pac was the absolute undeniable messiah of music, make claims that he is better than the likes of David Bowie and John Lennon, then go as far as to go on tribute pages to Biggie and other artists just to shit on them in the comments because muh 2pac. He was mediocre at his very best but since he died young in the 90s he's immediately a fucking god apparently.

p.s. he took ballet, went to an expensive art-school, his mother was a crackhead, and he was documented to visit gay clubs. real gangsta i guess.

2pac is a meme

i dont think you realize how many people genuinely think he is the greatest musician of all time, it's ridiculous desu
>>
>>73055175
yeah that's what i mean, he's this romanticized cultural phenomenon that people obsess over before having learned anything about him. he's a meme man
>>
>>73055175
Truly one of the most cancerous artists ever.
Fuck him, his music, and his idiotic fans.

No seriously this guy is fucking garbo. I've heard just about every track that was actually published in his lifetime because when I was a dumb kid I thought he was cool. I swear to god I thought I skipped the tape at least 3 or 4 times when I listened to all eyes on me, so many of his songs are literally the same exact thing.
>sup guys im 2pac i fuck bitches
>wait no respect women
>im a gangsta wait no wait im a thug
>im a thug thug life bitch mang
>wait the government yo lol
>aye i love my momma and my daddy is gay
>DEATH ROWWWWWWW
>sippin hennessey running from my enemies
>FUCK YOU BIGGIE AND FUCK DA EAST COAST NIGGA BLAOW BLAOW BLAOW
>but i truly do understand the struggle of african american women in society

Also he was a fucking socialist who constantly injected into his music, and all the members of his group the Outlawz were named after communist dictators, so there's that.

rolling stones are the most overrated band/artist in the rock music genre.
I can't believe anyone would ever compare them to the beatles.
At least Elvis could dance, picked better songs to copy, and was handsome and had a good voice.
The stones were rich boys in england pretending to be tough.
The beatles were actually from rough neighborhoods, plus they wrote exceptionally better songs, and didn't pretend to be hoodlums.

The fact that

>>73055143
Even though I like his music, I always wonder where would he be now; I pity the fools who think that if he was alive he would still be ripping the rap game. In a best, one of a hundred chance, he'd have the position of Eminem and still be relevant, way past his prime but relevant. But being honest he would probably end up like most of rappers of 90's by now, doing something on his own but definitely not running anything in music business.

Worst case scenario, he would be posting pictures on twitter that Uzi Vert and Lil Yachty are killing hip hop
>>

Me Against the World's a certified classic, delete this nephew
>>
>>73055288
I will admit that there are few songs by him that I like (mostly deep cuts), but not enough to take him seriously as an artist.
He's very hypocritical too, and a shitty human being for the most part, an edgelord, a total talentless hack in general.
It's a shame he holds such a mythical status in hip-hop tho, because I don't really think he deserves it.
Biggie doesn't deserve it either, but he has a better body of work and has much more substance and replay value than fucking Tupac. There are more fascinating things about what Biggie said and did in his time in the music industry than this hack.
>>
>>73055344
Biggie planned for this third record to be a triple album and his fourth to be a quadruple album. Glad he died when he did desu.
>>
>>73055317
You can't blame anyone for his death but him really. He went out and just fucking flat out said "fuck new york" and dissed like 40 rappers from there, then had the balls to go to New York and fly back. What did he expect? Did he expect everyone would just be A-OK with him shitting on an entire coast? Nope, the thugs in new york clapped him and now he's the goat because one time he said he loved his mother.

Hit 'Em Up was the song that got 2Pac killed.
>>
>>73055355
That would've been painful to listen to.
>>
>>73055355
Biggie had plenty of plans my man. He was planning to hook up a few more Lil' Kim albums + a solo album for Kleptomaniac from Junior MAFIA, then he wanted to start his own record label. Once that was all said and done he wanted to start a clothing line called "Brookyln Mint" (he actually recording a commercial in the form of a song for it, you can find it on youtube), then make a sitcom and become a movie writer. THEN, after all that shit was done, he wanted to become a politician (his motto would've been "spread love it's the brooklyn way"). He had huge plans for the future.
>>
>>73055360
>Hit 'Em Up was the song that got 2Pac killed.
2Pac got killed because of the fact that he messed with a lot people with real street-cred, not rappers, actual gangbangers. I think that a lot of people from that time within those circles are aware of that, so they kinda knew what was going to happen, hence why Nas didn't jump him when he approached Pac, and he did have a chance of leaving that poor bastard dead, but he probably knew that his life was going to end soon, so he didn't bother.
>>
>>73055400
And now his widow is using his old vocals to boost her trashy career. Damn shame.

ahahahaha
Also yeah The King & I was trash. Pretty much all already heard stuff, except the verses that she put on records that were reference tracks for other artists.
>>
>>73055407
That's literally exactly what I said lmao. He dissed so many rappers that at least one of them was guaranteed to have street ties. Thus, 2Pac got 2Popped.

I don't know what genre to put this musician in, but Michael Jackson was pretty damn overrated. He had a good singing voice, but it's not a coincidence that his three best albums were his only albums produced by Quincy Jones, nor is it a coincidence that he wrote like three songs on each of his two best albums.

He also molested dozens of boys and paid two of them off (one of the boys who he paid off knew about a distinctive brown mark on his dick).
>>
If 2Pac were alive now he'd either be irrelevant like Spice 1, ballet dancer in Broadway or race baiting like Al Sharpton & Lord Jamar.
>>
Might I correct myself, Jackson probably shouldn't even be considered a musician. I've never seen the guy play an instrument.
>>
>>73055305
Image aside, the Rolling Stones are responsible for the popular use of the sitar in the 60's. Paint it black is also better than any George Harrison song

>I don't know what genre to put this musician in

just use pop, easy catch-all term that describes most of his work

but yeah, he's incredibly overrated. his discography was two classics, two good albums, some throwaway teenage soul trash, and some throwaway old man pop trash.

You can and that's OK, but it's really just your negative opinion

What you call lackluster and mediocre, some people call brilliant and great

I guess it's just you against the world, baby
>>
>>73055463
But his death had nothing to do with rap beef, more with Pac's habitual line-stepping, he didn't do it just to rappers, he was trying to bully his way into everything.
Plus, as far as I've heard, he got killed by some guy from the West Coast.

I thought that PAC was overrated because he never reached the level of Nas' illmatic but then again there would be no Nas without PAC. No other rapper was hitting as many lanes as PAC at the time and most rapper right now in the game that are better than him on a technical level are inspired by him (its litterally the michael jordan debate at this point). The greatest hits collection is the closest to prove 2pac talents and versatality (changes, keep ya head up, trapped, brenda got a baby, dear mama,2 of Amerika most wanted, temptation, Hit em up and others) but even it has too many similar tracks. 2pac being a walking contradiction doesnt bother me, it had more layers to him as a human being than most rappers who are really just focused of either be a gangbanger or a politic act. His real flaws are how much he rehashed himself outside of topic songs and how much people think that he was a ''saviour'' when he was mostly a thug out to make money. That being said if we're talking GOAT, I think Biggie and PAC complete themselve as what rap was like in the 90's.
>>
>>73055758
So why do you have to complain that someone has a negative opinion about something you like? If you're really that bothered argue against it
>>
>>73055758
Do you also post a variation of that image that says "I LIKE THING" and then point out "it's just your positive opinion" to everyone as well? You slackjawed mouthbreathing cretin.
