Remix is good but mono is still best
>>
Yeah, Giles Martin did a great job.
>>
>>72986660
Lovely Rita, Mr. Kite and A Day in the Life sound great. She's Leaving Home and When I'm Sixty-Four, not so much. Don't have a strong opinion on the others (except for Reprise, which has more energy now, but I preferred Love's version for the same reason).
>>
Worst Beatles album.
>>
>>72986992
Too bad that George Martin never did an arrengement for She's Leaving Home. I don't think he ever said how was his vision for it.

Aw man, it sounds like shit. I'm just gonna stick with the 96 remaster.
>>
>>72987247
No, Abbey Road and MMT are definitely worse.
>>
>>72986660
Wait you're not meming? For the most part, the Beatles remasters have just been getting more and more brickwalled and distorted. I'm interested in hearing this

>>
>>72987615
It's not just a remaster, it's a remix. They finally got rid of that bullshit 60's stereo panning.

>mfw i heard the new mix of LITSWD
>>
listening to it now - it really is neat!!

Obviously the complete remix aspect means that it's the clearest you've ever heard this album. There's less of the fullness less warmth that the originals had, but that's to be expected with the added clarity. Guitars sound absolutely great, as do the drums! The vocal harmonies seem to stand out a little more, and the mixes are wide with a lot of breathing room. It sounds like something you might have gotten in the mid 70s - which I'm a fan of. Definitely freshens up an album that I've heard a thousand times (even if sgt pepper is not my favourite beatles album)

>>
>>72986933
up until this point I'd have agreed, but now we've got a true stereo mix where each instrument part is its own track. The issue with the other versions is that you had multiple parts on one track (because of the 4/8/12 track recording tech of the time). All stereo versions up till this point were an afterthought. This is the main attraction!

The new mix is alright. What I don't understand is why this stupid Giles asshole insists in putting the drums to the right on A Day in the Life? Is he stupid or something?

I just heard an interview of him in which he says something like "Ringo's drums on ADITL in mono are like an explosion, they power the whole song when they appear. That's lost in the stereo mix"

And then, this stupid asshole... what does he do? He puts the damn drums in the damn fucking right channel. Stupid fuck, jesus. Why? WHY?

This is exactly what i tought when i listened to ths remix, it changed a lot, it´s so amazing.
>>
>>72996965
Right? I'm hearing all these sounds I either never heard before or am hearing much more clearly. I've had the thing on repeat since last night.

So what's everyone's favorite track from the album? I've always loved Mr. Kite. The way both parts of the song are so different yet blend together seamlessly.
>>
>>72996764
at least listen to it more than once dumbass
>>
>>72996764
Yes, that´s the song that fucked him, and no, i love Brian, but he didn´t write multiple albums worth of better songs, the production and execution of SFF it´s amazing.
The only song that Brian did that i think is equal production wise is Good Vibrations and talking of songwriting Surf´s Up
>>
>>72996989
Lucy in the sky with diamons really blew my mind, it sounds so different and overwhelming.
I really enjoyed the whole album but probably it´s between Being for the benefit of mister kite or Lucy.
Maybe A Day in the Life.
I guess i can´t decide right now.
>>
>>72995597
> The Beatles were pretty good weren't they

that's actually funny, I had that same thought. I mean I'm a big Beatles fan, but when I listened to the instrumentals I was like "wow these guys are doing some really neat stuff that I never noticed"
>>
>>72997180
People don´t seem to realize that they were excelent musicians and performers, i also noticed pretty cool stuff going around in the intrumentals.
>>
Anyone else get sort of depressed listening to the Beatles ? Like, knowing I could spent 10 years on a single song and it still wouldn't be half as good as something they churned out in a day.
>>
Got a huge smile on my face listening to Getting Better. It sounds so fucking good you guys
>>
>>72986660

It's not enough of a remix

Why do I still have McCartney's fucking bass panned to the right in Day in the Life? And then the drums are panned right too. It's garbage. I was really hoping this mix would make it sound competent.

Not to mention Sgt Peppers isn't even a top 5 Beatles album.

Can someone explain to me what this is all about?

I get that the quality is probably much better but how can it be superior if it's not what the artists intended? Is there some reason that the Beatles couldn't make the album they wanted to and this remix captures something that they couldn't before? Otherwise I'm not sure how you justify a non-bandmember "fixing" an album decades later...
>>
Strawberry fields forever - Take 26

>>
>>73000512
until 67/68 the Beatles didn't care about Stereo mixes, Mono mixes were more important. they would spend days mixing Mono and a few hours mixing Stereo.
>>
>>73000557

So this is just a high quality stereo mix of an album that the artists didn't really to be in stereo?
>>
>>73000533
Pretty sure that was one of the two takes to make the master track you shitter.
>>
>>73000575
Well, yes and no. They decided to focus on working within the aural confines of Mono because that's what most people had then.

However, both Ringo *and* Paul have said that the new remaster is "closer to their original vision" than what they made back then.

So it's just cool to have the OG historic Mono as well as the fancy polished new version to hear a bit more sparkle in places where you couldn't previously.

The remaster is fair play, but we fans are constantly craving those alternate takes & scraps of studio chatter -- *that* is what sells us

SFF is my favorite Beatles song just in terms of technical feats. Its a great song that was put together using pretty clever techniques. Although I'm a bit of a snob and prefer the second half (take 26 mix in) sped up to its original speed. For me it gives the rest of the song more power

Good interview. There's an interesting quote:

>I suddenly went, "Oh, this is why it's a great album.' Because you have 'Within You Without You' going into 'When I'm Sixty-Four' and it becomes this body of work where each song completes the next song. It's an escape - just when you think things are getting a bit heavy... It's a bit like The Beatles at this stage [of their career] - the sum of the parts was much greater than individualities. It's the ultimate Beatles collaboration album where they were all on the same page. I think when listening to the songs individually, they aren't as good than when you listen to them on Sgt. Pepper's. Everything matches.

It was never released and never leaked in any capacity.

Any version you will find online is either a complete fabrication or a (partially) educated approximation based on what little information is out there.

We don't know what form it'll take when it does get out. Giles keeps saying he hopes "we do something cool" with it, which could mean anything.
>>
>>73001564
its annoying that theres literally 3 mixes of that song with reverse guitar in different points each time. i agree with you, the mono placements are the superior versions

The backwards guitar effect is heard in different places in the four mixes, and a lead guitar track is mixed differently throughout the solo and at the end. An alleged fifth mix, the "French EP", is just [d].

verse 1:
no backwards guitar (BG) on any mix
verse 2:
[a] no BG
[b] BG on "everywhere at such a speed" and "find there's no need"
[c] BG on "running everywhere at such a speed" and "till they find there's no need"
[d] BG on "where at such a speed" and "there's no need"
verse 3:
[a] BG on "time" and "ceiling"
[b][c] no BG
[d] BG on "staring at the ceiling"
solo:
[a] guitar continues into words "please don't" at end of solo
[b][d] guitar ends at end of solo
[c] guitar fades in 2 bars later, continues into "please"
verse 4:
no BG on any mix
end:
[a] guitar starts 4 beats after the last word "sleeping"
[b][c][d] guitar starts immediately after last word "sleeping"

RUBBER SOUL 2017 mix pls

The 1999 remixed Rubber Soul tracks really are gorgeous, if they extended those to the entire album...
>>
Every Beatles album deserves this treatment, I'm almost crying.
>>
The Penny Lane remix sounds the same desu
>>
>they FINALLY get that transition in Day in the Life right

on every mix when the first orchestra crescendo segues into the paul segment, it always got clipped. The only time I heard it done right was the music video for day in the life, where the fade off of the orchestra finishes as paul's bass crossfades over it. Really excited for this.

One more thing, I found on the vinyl versions of ADITL the crescendos both the first and finale are MUCH more intense. I listened to the 1967-1970 album (blue album) version of this song and I was blown away by it, but listening to all the remasters, they normalized it so its less jarring. Sad
>>
>>73001499
51st anniversary pro ably isn't gonna happen boys.
That said I heard they're doing something similar with the white album remixing with some of the songs with a large amount of takes
I think this would be the best time to release carnival of lights as well since it was recorded around this album

You are forgetting that this album received the same Giles Martin treatment in 2015. Whats your opinion?
>>
>>73002130
The transition from mono to stereo after the first few songs is a little jarring. Otherwise no complaints, though I didn't know many of the older mixes particularly well anyway.

the best thing to come of that was the 1080p versions of the beatles music videos. SFF had a fucking amazing video.

You people are fucking idiots holy shit. This mix is trash, literally and unequivocal trash.

It doesn't sound "so clear". What does that even mean? The fidelity of Beatles recordings have always been absolutely top notch. They used the best and most expensive equipment. This mix doesn't sound "clearer" than any of the other versions, that doesn't even make any sense.

All he did was go in and play around with the panning on the tracks. Drums go here, bass goes here, guitar goes here and then I'll move them around a bit. It's literally pointless and against the artist's wishes and intention. Not to mention this hack had the option to choose between the stereo and mono tracks (which are different at different times), meaning he created some sort of Frankenstein album that is potentially filled with sounds that The Beatles had NO intention of including. It's dumb.

Seriously, get some fucking ears. It's insane how impressed you guys are by some hack slapping a new hat on a perfectly mixed album. The mono mix is not only perfectly fine, but much better than what you're hearing here. Just stop. Please.
>>
>>73002320
it's better

At first I was mad but I know you simply have no clue what you're talking about so I'm okay
>>
>>73002320
What did he mean by this?
>>
>>73002320
It's "clearer" because for this remix they've used the pre-bounced tapes. The original mix was made on 4 track, so reductions and bounces had to be made to put everything in there. For this mix they had access to those original tapes, so it's better, for that only.

Now, for the placement... yeah, some things are not quite right yet, like those damn drums still not in the middle for all songs. I also think Giles could have gone a bit more wild in this. He's so "clean" at putting things in one place and leave them there. The original stereo mix had so much crazy pannings (ie: ADITL vocals jump from right to left and right again in the verses). It's a fucking psychedelic album after all, for chrissake.
>>
>>73002320
Are you feeling okay?
>>
>>73002320
I think most people are just comparing the stereo versions. The mono version is of course what they intended.
>>
>>73002369
>It's a fucking psychedelic album after all, for chrissake.
The mono versions sounds infinitely more psychedelic than this or any other stereo version. John's vocals on Lucy are the perfect example.

Panning instruments is babby's first psych trick. It's dumb.
>>
The unison glissando at the end of Day in the Life seems messier than the 2009 mix. Otherwise massive improvement

Especially the horns.

>>
Reminder that "Within You Without You", "Good Morning, Good Morning", and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)" stop it from being a 10/10.
>>
>>73003337
the reprise shits on the original
>>
>>73002863
*very* and I mean VERY slightly

it's one second shorter

biggest change is that now the staccato guitar is louder than the staccato piano

also, as on every track, the bass is louder
>>
>>73003640
I clearly noticed two guitars playing on it this time, on the mono mix I can barely tell the difference
>>
There really needs to be more silence between tracks.

>>73003640
Yeah the bass is turned up to 11 on all tracks. It's an easy way to "modernize" music and it definitely makes the tracks sound different. It does remind you just how great and unique of a bass player Paul is though. His lines are just as poppy as the main melody.

I doubt the bass was supposed to be mixed this high though and though there's definitely some more clarity here (though some of that may be due to the fact that I never listen to these songs in stereo) with the new mix, I'm still perferring the mono mix overall and this new mix is just something new and alternative to listen to.

>>73003337
Pleb opinion. WYWY is one of the best tracks on the record and the Repise is better than the original in every single aspect.

Now I haven't heard the 50th anniversary version but until I do I still maintain that the mono mix is better than the stereo version. The sound is ... okay, if you're listening to it on a cell phone. But it continues the same pattern that the Beatles masters have had of very bass-heavy masterings with the treble rolled off. Please compare it to the MFSL remaster, which has always been my definitive stereo version (and remember, it plays much quieter):
