Well, I'd assume he wants an album that can effectively make you feel depressed.
An album that can do that would have to use other emotions to contrast and escalate to lead the listeners emotions where it wants it to go.

Sure there are a few songs that deal with love, especially with RHP and Cohen, but the rest largely deal with addiction, isolation, loneliness, anxiety, dread, etc.

There is a shit load of music like you described, you must have really shallow listening habits and limited horizons.
