The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

Also, their music is god damn great. I know you feel cool as fuck for saying that the most popular and critically acclaimed band of all time sucks, but if you'd stop being a contrarian cunt you'd see how god damn enjoyable it is. Extremely well-written melodic music with top notch production and fantastic harmonies - what isn't there to love?

And even if you somehow can't enjoy any of their music, you should at least appreciate the massive impact they had on music. The Beatles proved that bands who write their own music and defy pop music conventions can be commercially viable. Without the Beatles, bands like King Crimson wouldn't have been able to sell records, and consequently their music would have never reached a broad audience.

In addition to their own innovations, the Beatles put previously underground ideas on popular albums. Keep in mind that this was the sixties - you couldn't discover music on the internet, so without the distribution network of a major label or radio airplay, it was extremely difficult for music to reach a national audience. If you weren't living in a city with a major music scene, you probably weren't aware of any music that you couldn't hear on the radio. The versatility of the Beatles' music inspired countless musicians who hadn't heard anything like it before.

TL;DR you don't have to like the Beatles, but you should at least appreciate what they accomplished for popular music.
