rock bands generally play simpler music and don't have nearly as big of a repertoire

also classical music has a lot more dynamics and nuances that are integral to making music sound good with multiple people playing different parts at the same time

Classical musicians usually have more than three chords to play over and over, so it helps to have the sheet music on hand. Even so, many soloists perform from memory, scores are mainly useful for coordinating ensembles.

I like rock better and think classical is boring but let me take a stab at this since no one has and I think I know what could be the response:

Rock is easy on the ears and still good when you take a closer listen.

Classical obviously sounds good but not enough for any of us to actually waste our time looking through the genre. But for people who like it I'm sure there's tons of percussions and other music words that they drool over when they listen closely than rock will ever have. But again the overall sound is boring ass

Being able to play a piece by sight is incredibly difficult. There can be a lot of information to translate.

That said, classical/symphony/big band musicians rehearse these pieces. By show time, it's mostly memory.

In a rock framework, it's expected that everything's entirely from memory, or off the cuff, and there's more room for mistakes for the most part. Symphony musicians are expected to perform as perfectly as the moment will allow, and they're allowed a cheat sheet to do it.
