see the problem is, no one realizes she is the best living american song writer of our time
Who even is that?
>>72844924
really?
I'll take this as undisputed then
>>72845092
"no."
>>72844951
>>72844924
Am I the only one who has no fucking clue who 90% of these people are? I listen to tons of music and have for years and years and I have no clue what the musicians look like. I feel like this place cares way more about the artists themselves and not the music. i feel like it's the musical equivalent of caring who an actor is dating.
>>72846739
you're genuinely retarded.
She's the cover of her most famous fucking album.
you haven't heard of Ys?
I'm trying really hard to dispute this but only sufjan seems to come close
>>72846760
Oh, that lady.
I thought this was another Avril Lavigne thread.
>>72846771
andrew bird is great too
but neither of them are as good as Joanna IMO
>>72846771
>Sufjan is 41
>still dresses like a 15 year old
>fanbase of mostly sub 20s
he's creepier than John Green
>>72844915
I really hope her next album is more like HooM or Ys, with much longer songs and stuff. Most people have already said this but Divers, while imo still being great, really felt like it was meant to be her first "pop" album and I just hope she hasn't departed into that territory permanently.

OP Here
the counter argument is maybe you don't get into artists enough.
If I start to really enjoy an artist, I want more of them. I might want to know more about an album, I might want to hear an acoustic version or watch a video of it being performed live. In that process, you usually run into video of the artists where you can see who they are. If you want to learn more about their tour or how the record was made, you start to watch interviews, you learn their faces their voices a little of their personality there. That's really just kinda how it goes.
I think you should try not to categorize or deflect so much of nothing being thrown at you, just because you don't watch interviews of your favorite artists or know what they look like doesn't make you better or us worse. It's a real shitty defense mechanism you have there goin on.
It's really awesome btw to see studio footage or interviews of your favorite artists you should try it sometime.
>>72847065
she's married to Andy Samberg
every second she spends with him is a commercializing cashcow influence
>>72847061
prove it
I mean, other than him being 41
>>72847325
>>72847325
stop being so dramatic
>>72847061
you're forgetting that Soof doesn't age
i love her, she's the best
but...
have one on me lyrics:
shake her skirts and scatter, there
a shrieking, six-legged millionaire
as we all know, daddy long legs are a kind of spider, but also a character in the novel by jean webster, who's a tall millionaire. daddy long legs is mentioned several times in the song, and so obviously this "six legged millionaire" is some word play about both the character and the spider
BUT
spiders have 8 legs, not 6
is she retarded?
>>72848049
Daddy long legs have six are you retarded?
>>72844915
Except Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen are all still alive.
>>72848127
you know how to count, don't you sweetie?
>>72848144
replace Bruce Springsteen with Paul Simon
And yea those guys are fantastic, no doubt, good point.
>>72844915
>>72847061
what's so great about being an "adult"
>>72848279
people get to have sex with you without it being iffy
>>72848203
Yea I'd def put Darnielle in the same tier
>>72848049
>>72848127
>>72848152
Apparently "daddy long legs" refers to different bugs in different regions. at least one isn't even a spider
>>72848339
yes, i considered that, but (in the same song)
there's a big black spider
hanging over my door
here's lola, ta da, to do
her famous spider dance for you
she's clearly referring to the spider
>>72844915
People might, if she could be found in
spotify.
>>72847065
i just want more childish and fun instrumentals that she had in milk eyed mender not this boring disney music from ys and whatever that indie bs from 2015 was
lyrics aside, she hasn't made any cool music since her debut
>>72848536
the instrumentation in divers fucking fantastic, what are you talking about?
>>72846739
How is it like caring who an actor is dating? It's just knowing what a musician you enjoy looks like
>>72847325
married to poor man adam sandler
