What are some albums that you feel a personal connection with?
Albums that are literally the end-game of life for you while it's just pretentious pleb-core for everyone else?

For me, this album is a long form tale of a man on a journey to cure himself of sadness. The turns this album takes are beautiful and the end of Extra Kings is representative of the man kneeling on the Honolulu beach, crying his eyes out. Wildflower comes nowhere near this album in terms of the emotion it gives me.

I've heard it descrided as just a fun dance record though

It hit me really hard on my first listen and now every time I give it a spin I have mental breakdown. I don't know why though. Especially the first two songs.

But really, im curious as to why you like this album, i have listened to it, i like the composition and timing, with all the crescendos and stuff , but for me its very plain and same-ish with its instrumentation and general sonority.

Because, for me at least, listening to bands like GYBE, Mogwai, A Silver Mount Zion, Do make say think, you can see much better use of instruments and samples to make texture and rhytmn

Not the same guy, but I heard all of those and, besides some GY!BE releases (specifically the first two albums), this is still my favorite Post-Rock album, I can't really tell you why, the way it sounds just resonates with me.
It may just be the shoegazy vibes over the relaxing sounds, I don't know, but it's really good.

I could tell stories about why this album is so personal to me. It's been there for me through a lot of my life. The onset of my psychosis, graduating college...and falling in love with the woman I plan to marry.

It's not even that she liked it. She's into bands like Parachute and Life House (basically ABC Familycore)

It's that she loves it when I share my music with her, and we spend hours picking this album apart on why I like it so much, the narratives its telling...

I can remember sitting in bed with her, showing her this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEbjhstG1gE
and us reading all the lyrics together.

I love this album so much

People like you make me want to kill myself. Of course you'll respond "lol good do it, cuck" or some other horseshit, but you don't understand how grating it is having to live on a planet with people like you. There's so many too. It's not like you're unique, far from it actually, you're about as generic as they come nowadays.
And every time I have to smell your foul KFC breath when you're shouting out ""your"" opinions, I just want to escape existence.

I want to claw at the ground and the air, pry our universe open and escape into a plain of being with more value or meaning.

But no, I'll surely die on the sidewalk, foaming at the mouth, as you walk on with your shoulders cocked and your eyes glazed over. Not because of my inferiority. No, because had we lived in a world with any rhyme or reason, I wouldn't even know you. At best you'd be a side note at the end of a day. But because we live in this industrialized hell hole, people climbing over each other to get to work, I have to see your kind everywhere. I have to bare your existence for you, as well as the millions of others like you. I want you to understand, you're not the strong. You're the weak. You're the one that can find some meaning in this desert, whereas the superior beings sputter out in the mental hospital.

You are not the strong, you are the weak.

And the weak now kill the strong.

To me, I see Wildflower as an LSD infused road trip across Australia, from the rural to the coastal towns, meeting all sorts of people and doing all sorts of crazy things along the way. Saturday Night Inside Out is the end point of the road trip, and everyone that you've met along the way are partying in the same room together. Just like the end of a cheesy movie.
Basically, Since I Left You = The Destinations
Wildflower = The Journey

This album was my favorite when it was released. Now, I probably wouldn't rate it 10/10 but the title track and Rioseco are my favorite tracks of all time. I even brought the book which inspired it (Pessoa's The Book of Disquiet) and am enjoying it.

I also relate a lot with Spiderland. Listening to the album with a bonus field recording is a whole another experience.

Post-rock in general is considered to pleb-core. While I do agree that the genre has stagnated a bit, it still offers a great emotional experience.

Ok ok I know it's just Ulver as teenagers messing around with dark folk made up of pretty sounding arpeggios mostly, but it sat so nice with me when I first heard it. It's one of the records that really made me decide on teaching myself to play music. The length to me is perfect for listening to on a short walk just after smoking a bowl in the cool, midwestern autumns in the local woods. The last track and it's last two minutes wrap up the melancholic and nostalgic atmosphere and trail off on exactly the right tone I needed it to.

It's also led me to find Grouper's "Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill," which is also a favorite of mine.

Since I was old enough to appreciate music I have loved every single song on this album. I know it is not an unappreciated or overlooked album, but it has always meant a lot to me.

It reminds me of my adolescence. My years spent as a cringy edgelord and me looking back on them as a man seeing the memories, mistakes and regrets through a distorted lens.

The Glowing Man

In the Attic of the Universe

Horses in the sky

The Crimson Idol for sure.

Itaots

Soundtracks for the Blind in a bad way.

It's almost to the point that if someone asked me to describe myself with an album, it would either be this or Controlling Crowds.

I'm not even sure if it's the base, reactive parts of myself, or genuinely myself, but it is there.

I just love David Bowie and something about these reinterpretations hits me in a weird place emotionally

He's right it's good.

Also, it's indifferent whether people are right or wrong on music. I like this album, and I can recommend it.

Yup.

Brave Little Abacus is extremely melodic and it also shows in the vocal lines. Really creative/quirky too of course.

Haha weirdly enough, Sons and Daughters is my least favourite track on the album (but even then it's still pretty güd). The version I first heard had After the Bombs as the last song with no indication that it was a bonus track, so for a long time I thought that it was part of the album. To this day I still think they should have included it as the actual closer.

This hits me pretty hard, especially Chance' s part on Ultralight Beam

I know we joke about vidya OSTs a lot, but when I first listened to this, I legitimately didn't know what to feel.

On the one hand, it definitely qualified as "video game music", and I recognized it as such. But it also had a kind of musicality to it that, up to that point, I had never really considered.

In the end, it made me realize just how vast the medium of video games had become in the last decade, and how you really shouldn't close yourself from those endless possibilities.

Some vidya music is great. Final Fantasy, To the Moon, Nier Automata, Silent Hill, Hotline Miami. Some of it's pretty basic though. I think some of the music ties into the experience with the game though.

i entered the thread just to see if someone posted it
It's interesting because i can't even relate to the most superficial themes (suicide and failed relationships)
but there is something in it that just make me feel hard.
