I know that feel. I come up with clear sounds in my head when I'm in a hypnogogic state but I don't have the time before going to bed to try and find every sample I need/synthesize everything/etc, and eventually I fall asleep and the idea is gone

Michael Jackson, Dave Ghrol, John Lennon and others make their music that way, hearing the melodies in their heads and transitioning into instruments without knowing any music theory (Slash didnt even know to read notes) so is not imposible , use a piano and try to hit the right notes also record yourself singing the melodies so you don't forget em
