Why are bands like Green Day finding it hard to make it these days when were everywhere a few years ago?
>>72725859
a few years ago they put out a horrible triple album though
american idiot was 13 years ago
Taste changed and pop punk is lame to the current crop of teens.
Green Day is having a hard time
because Billy Joe is an old man set in his ways and is trying his damndest to make another American Idiot but can't.
Other pop punk bands like Fall Out Boy and the one that made the song about closing the door are still finding success because they changed their sound to incorporate dance and electronic elements to the mix and kicked the emo shit. Blink 182 is doing it and all they're doing is recycling the s/t era and playing to their base. Billy Joe Armstrong wants to be so punk, but ironically he can't do without the mainstream radio rock money.
BJA is such a caricature rock purist that he won't change their sound.
And interestinf direction for Green Day would be to take some post-punk influence and start imitating Billy Idol in atitude and modernizing it.
The whole whiny 14 year old kid thing doesn't work well for 40 year old white men.
Rock is dead stop worrying about it. That had nothing to do with you, sit around and wait to see if the kids pick up an interest in guitar again and not making whiny or pretentious shit and we'll see what happens.

>american idiot was 13 years ago
shut the fuck up
>>72725870
fuck. It's older than my minecraft streaming cousing.

>post punk influence
>imitating Billy Idol
that would be really cool
>>72725859
Because of the stupid snapchat generation mindset. They don't give a shit about buying CDs or connecting with cool music they just want something that's trendy with the times. Everything from this decade is a complete throwaway tbhdesu.
>>72725859
I'm pretty sure they are still popular even though they ran out of ideas
>>72725859
Because they're not hopping on the trends in Rock music that Coldplay, Linkin Park, Panic! At The Disco, and Fall Out Boy have.

green day is worse than what people listen to now
at best it's literally the same in terms of quality

It's not about better or worse, OP asked why it's difficult for bands like green day to make it in modern day. Their body of work is not bad though but if their recent material is and indication of whats to come then they should quit now.
>>72727901
because they are shit and always been
Basically they're stuck in the past. You can't really keep up with the current pop icons if you keep doing the same old same old, plus the whole punk image isn't cool anymore and it doesn't help that they're getting old.

The bigger question is, when can pop punk get /comfy/ again?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pgqa3cVOxUc
Because they fucking suck. They are playing a dead genre in 2017. At least 90s bands like Radiohead or RHCP have talented musicians to change it up. AMSP doesn't sound like Pablo Honey. The Getaway was decent but doesn't sound like Californication.
they made a bajillion dollars and probably don't even write music anymore. they went on longer than most bands before coasting anyway.

Pop punk was only good in the 90s-00s. Any attempt to revive it will only end in pizzacore shit like the wonder years and neck deep. Also
>using meme words to describe genres
Next you'll want to make metal "edgy" again and vaporwave "aesthetic" again

this is a good genre album and it's pretty self-aware. the DeLonge impression is spot on at least.
