He's not here right now. Can I take a message?
Right now I'm trying to make the guitar fretboard easier to visualize.
Here are some concepts which I will split into multiple post that I copped from other guitarist and expanded upon on my own.
Outer and Inner: Take any scale and play one octave of it. Now instead of starting with your index finger start with your little finger. You now have an inversion of the same scale. You can of course expand it to how many octaves you want but this is easier for starting off. (pic related)
Extending Scales: Extending scales is a concept for scales starting on strings other than the 6th. You can extend a scale past its given block shape by noticing that the shape you are playing is part of another scale. For example If you were to play D minor starting on the 5th string you can expand by playing the A phrygian shape right above it. For the 4th string you can expand it by playing the E locrian shape, 3rd string can be expanded with C mixolydian, 2nd with G dorian and first with D minor.
Scales based off of String sets: Only play a scale on a chosen string set. For example the 5-2 strings only.
