Anybody here play nickel nanos for bass? I'm looking for a bright string without too much clank and zing, but a pleasant grind and growl when digging in. These seem to be brighter than the typical nickel but a touch less that steel. I think I'm already settled on some coated string or another, I like how they sound against the frets. I'm putting them on a 32" bass.

>Footswitchable clean channel is a plus though

>>72716514
Les Paul, if you bought it new.
>>
>>72716366

in my experience even 5w tube amps will be too loud for most apartments with a 12' speaker, and most of the fault here is actually the speaker.

i've been using an orange #4 for a good while and had 3 different Eminence speakers, v120, wizard and man o' war. all 3 of them are loud as fuck, they make bedroom play almost impossible and that's on 7w.

i saved the head for playing around with friends and shit, and just went to amp modelling software.

I currently have a Laney L5T and it is indeed loud but once I get out this apartment, it will be perfect. Currently the volume is manageable but I can't push the amp at all.

I know that software is handy for home use but I usually want to get away from computers after work and occasionally play with my friend. I'm not a band guy but I still want a nice (small) amp.

Someone please answer me this, how high or low so you play your guitar? It's been bothering me for awhile now since I'm learning how to play. I usually play it just below the crotch. But I see other guitarists like Albert Hammond Jr play with the guitar nearly on his chest. But then you get someone like Tom DeLonge who plays with the guitar hitting his knees. Is there like a height to guitar ratio? Or is it just preference? Anons I need to know.
> Pic is Tom DeLonge who had back surgery because of playing his guitar at an odd angle
>>
>>72716862
I'd say go as high as it's confortable for you, it's easier to play that way. Generally the less effort it takes you to play the guitar the better you will be able to convey your musicality, so you shouldn't really give a shit if you don't look "stylish" or whatever, at least that is my opinion, feel free to disagree.
>>
>>72716862
It's kind of a preference but not quite. Having the guitar too high or too low will strain your arms and make it hard to play. In my opinion the ideal way of playing is the classical style. So sit down, put your guitar between your legs, raise your left leg a little and adjust the strap. That way the guitar is not too high or low and your playing position will the same whether you're sitting or standing.

Every time I see someone playing with the guitar by the crotch I can't help but think they are trying to compensate for something. I mean, Freud would surely say something about them using guitars as some sort of "phallic representation", and then you see guys like Slash or Ramone playing like that and trying to be theatrical and cocky, and you just can't but think they are definitely compensating.

What I mean is, having the guitar higher means you have more self confidence about your attributes.

I got a really good deal on it, and I've never owned one before so I figured why not and got it.
But now the time has come for its first string change. It's a bitch for sure and I will never get another Floyd guitar ever again.
>>
>>72719155
May need to adjust the spring-claw screws. Probably wont be too hard to balance it, but may take a while to actually get it tuned.

People just need to fuck off and stop giving these namefag attentionwhores the attention they want.
By replying to him, or even worse, bringing him up when he's not even posting or being mentioned, you're telling him and other faggots like him it's okay.
Fuck off and stop replying to him and stop mentioning him.

I'm done talking about it.
>>
>>72719247
just go watch a youtube video on it

easiest way is to just jam something under the bridge to lock it in place then change the strings

if you're increasing the string gauge you're going to have to tighten the strings
>>
>>72719247
Also a little trick I use, shove a battery under the bridge to keep it from droppong down all the way, restring, check the lift of the bridge from the battery and adjust the tension from there.

AAA usually works, AA for some of the deeper floyd recesses, if you have a brass cartridge from a .308, seems to fit most floyds I've put it under. Gives you a good rough estimate when you change guages. Just dont leave it there for too long.

I guess then besides those you already listed, an #4 terror could do it too. I like mine a lot, although it doesn't have the clean channel you want. mesa boogie also has that transatlantic cab which i think is pretty hi gain too, and laney has that ironheart 15w head, who has a fuckload of gain and also has a 0.75w input. I had the ironheart for a while, only sold it because it was too hi gain for my tastes at the time and i kinda regret doing it now, mostly because that attenuated input was a godsend.

either way, I think getting a head and cab is better than a combo, as you can switch speakers and experiment on them, and they do make a lot of difference.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffvJuUDgHRg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYg3mlbDB_8

I don't have the luxury of blasting a wall of SVTs so I got to sound big by artificial means. Hopefully, a good pedalboard can help.

Already own some boost pedals, but I still can't decide between DOD 250 reissue or EQD White Light.

Al Cisneros has a stock 250 but I'm not sure I can pull the trigger just yet because I heard the 250 sounds better driving a tube amp, which I got one but I'm thinking of gigging more with my solid state stuff.

The White Light is based on the 250 and MXR Distortion+ which pedalsandeffects.com loves as an overdrive and it comes with a bit of compression

I'll be stacking it with either EQD's Monarch, Acapulco Gold or Catalinbread SFT.

From what I read on forums, Acapulco Gold sounds good with a 250 and the Monarch stacks well with the White Light. I added the SFT cause it's a low end monster that sounds close to the Monarch.

I'm open to other recommendations... just need a little help getting the right pedals cause this shit can get expensive real quick. And since I'm getting them over the interwebz so I can't try them before buying them.

Stylistically I think there's a quote somewhere about never covering your dick with your guitar/bass and committing to either above like the jazz dudes or by your ankles like punk rockers.

Technique wise I know that playing with the guitar really high is recommended as you don't need to change your hand positions between sitting and standing.

The Orange may be good but I not a huge fan of signature equipment. It also seems a little too simplistic. The Transatlantic is not a high gain amp. It's pretty similar to my Laney but with more features and a bit more higher quality construction.. Ironheart doesn't sound good to me. It's too modern. In that sense the Engl isn't much better.

Victory VX is probably a good option too. It has a 2 watt mode. The downside is that it doesn't have a clean channel either. Only British and American drive channels.

Head & cab is usually quite a bit more expensive than combo. 2525*s cab comes with those special Marshall Vintage speakers, so it may be worth it. They are made by Celestion and many think they are the same as Vintage 30 only with a different sticker but in reality they are made in England, while V30 is made in China and they are voiced differently. Unless the amp I choose is particularly picky about speakers, I'll probably go with Celestion Heritage G12H with lead cone. An English Century wouldn't be bad either.

Red snark end all tuners, $15 or $150? some people sperg out if you actively play with your clip-on on though. Personally couldn't care less.

I'm just fuckin with you kid, that was pretty good. I don't play classical but I know how hard it is to get the different voices sounding clear and in time.

How to repair a broken headstock:
>Step 1: Put wood glue between headstock and neck
>Step 2: Clamp it
>Step 3: Remove excess glue
>Step 4: Pray for 48 hours
>Step 5: Restring and start playing
>>
>>72726690
take off strings, wood glue it, clamp it, leave it for two days, clean it glue, restring it, good as new
>>
>>72726439
Yeah but they still need to be leveled...
>>
Just bought a used bullet strat. What are the essential things I need to do to set it up? I've already looked through the fender guide, and I'm likely sticking to a 100% digital setup to start with.

>Check if the neck is straight, turn the truss rod if not
>Level the frets
>Check the action, install a neck shim if too high and if bridge saddles won't go lower
>If bridge is not too poor quality just make sure it's well intonated
Do yourself a favor and get one of these for it.
>>
>>72726345
Yeah your reports have worked out great so far
>>
>>72726826
ah. i thought you meant leveling the old frets instead of installing new ones

the frets were installed by a luthier, they were leveled properly
the luthier even pointed out the fretboard's warp himself and done some job to compensate or fix it

10/10 well memed

Are guitar and bass even relevant in music anymore?

What are some up and coming artists or bands who make music with guitars? I don't mean underground bands with a devoted scene, I mean who is doing something new and relevant to contemporary popular music that isn't just a revival of old styles like garage rock or post punk?

That looks fucking ugly and it probably hurts if you slide your hand up the fretboard really fast in the heat of the moment.
