>pioneer Jungle, Breakbeat Hardcore, Acid Jazz and IDM alongside other genres as part of The Black Dog
>have the best ear for harmony out of the whole Warp roster
>never fall for trends, always do their own thing
>fast forward today, barely anyone talks or mentions them
What gives?

They're called plaid? Tell me more.
>>
They made some original soundtracks also.

They used to be part of a group called The Black Dog with a third guy but they went their own separate ways sometime in the mid 90s. Check out The Book of Dogma comp which compiles the first 4 Black Dog EP's, the Bytes compilation and the Trainer compilation which compiles the first Plaid album and some EP compilation exclusive tracks for their early seminal work.

For Plaid solo I guess you can try Not For Threes, featuring collab tracks with Bjork and Nicolette if that matters to you, then go chronologically from there

they kinda got too plinky-plonky for me after double figure/spokes. to the point where it felt like a gimmick they were relying on too strongly. I just remember being annoyed by a lot of their tunes, but that's probably unfair of me. I should give their spokes-now catalog another listen through

the massive gap (excluding soundtracks that only trve hardcore fans would know about) between spokes (I can't even remember what greedy baby was - was it an actual album or was it meant to accompany visuals/videos?) and scintilli probably hindered their relevancy.

they didn't play the media game well enough like RDJ/ae/boc did to establish a perceived "coolness". they deserve be at Four Tet/Clark-level fame at least desu

p4k will probably do a career retrospective on them at some point and suddenly everyone whose favorite bands are radiohead, tycho and AnCo will fall head over heels for them

Their recent-ish stuff is hit or miss for me too but when they hit it they're sublime as usual.

Plaid are not that obscure and they do are "mainstream" (while it's mostly true what you write about they always doing their own thing - a thing that I usually like, that thing is Warp's property after all).

The real underrated and often plainly unknown artist is christ. (https://christmusic.bandcamp.com): he was a member of Boards of Canada and made Twoism with them, fo' fuk sake!
>>
>>72697116
problem with christ. is that he's kinda generic and came into prominence at a rather late time

maybe if his first 2 albums were made more available to the public instead of being ultra-underground obscurities like BoC's back catalogue I'd rank him, as it stands though I'd rather listen to Freescha or Casino vs. Japan to get my BoC-alike fix
>>
>>72697116
The idea wasn't that Plaid are obscure or underground but that they are underappreciated by the nowadays public m8, especially considering their work with The Black Dog.
>>
Why did they disband from The Black Dog?
>>
>>72698586
some disputes with the guy running that project
