Which of his solo albums are actually worth downloading and which ones are bullshit that I should avoid?
I can vouch for Street Hassle and Transformer.
>inb4 Metal Machine Music's his only good album
Berlin and Transformer are essential

Berlin is essential.
Transformer is mixed bag.
Don't bother with the rest unless you're REALLY into his crap.
>Transformer
>Rock and Roll Animal
>Street Hassle
>Blue Mask
Take No Prisoners is interesting as a live experience from Lou Reed's craziest years(like the 1978 gig in manchester where according to Tony Wilson Lou stood on stage without moving or singing for the entire set resulting in a massive riot) but musically it is terrible and it's 50% Lou talking nonsensically or arguing with the audience
why does New York have an 8 from scaruffi
it's boring as shit
his only good album
all of them. listen to john cale if you want to see a former vu member do pop music well.

I went through a big Lou Reed phase so I've listened to them all several times
>Transformer (I'm not crazy about it but everyone else seems to be)
>Berlin
>Coney Island Baby
>Street Hassle
>The Blue Mask
>New York
>Songs for Drella
Maybe Magic and loss and Ecstasy. They're pretty love it or hate it usually.
All others at least have some good stuff (besides MMM) but are a lot more meh.
Metal Machine Music

i unironically agree

I really liked that album he did with Eno.

Transformer and Berlin are great, Street Hassle and Coney Island Baby are okay, rest are kinda shit.

Seconding John Cale, Paris 1919 is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Fear is also a pretty good pop/rock album. Don't know much about his avant-garde stuff, though.
