"You are the music while the music lasts" - T.S. Eliot
What did he mean by this?

Pretentious literary nonsense

Context:
For most of us, there is only the unattended
Moment, the moment in and out of time,
The distraction fit, lost in a shaft of sunlight,
The wild thyme unseen, or the winter lightning
Or the waterfall, or music heard so deeply
That it is not heard at all, but you are the music
While the music lasts. These are only hints and guesses,
Hints followed by guesses; and the rest
Is prayer, observance, discipline, thought and action.
The hint half guessed, the gift half understood, is Incarnation.
He is talking about the ephemeral nature of human existence with music only being one of the metaphors.
He's talking about temporality. He's talking about how some of us exist metaphorically in the past or in the future, while some of us strive (in vain of course) to find some sort of timeless perspective outside of the ticking of a clock.
Most of us, however, spend most of our time mindlessly lost amidst a current jumble of seamless and unnoticed moments, uncognizant of time as it passes.
There's a line break in the middle of that quote like:
you are the music
while the music lasts
--so that the second line serves as a jarring reminder that you are going to die. Time is running out. That doesn't stop us form drifting back into the unperceived moments that make a human life, though.
