Nobody attempted to do her music. Sure, people did synthpop decades before her, but not like this. There are some familiar patterns but overall it's unique. Name a truly similar artist to her if you can. Someone with a range of songs from Heartbeats to Scream, from Be a Body to Laughing and Not Being Normal, from Sagrad to Kill V. Maim.
>>

No. You didn't even to her music is you claim these 2 artists are even remotely similar to her. As a matter of fact, post at least one Bjork or Pulp song similar to:

>>72525837
>it's like if you asked somebody else to be grimes, it's just, whatever
In this world where everything has been done, to have something unique to yourself is a huge feat. Having your own style, your own niche, is the hardest thing as an artist. Say what you will, but you can't confuse Grimes with someone else. So, she broke new ground by making something nobody did before.
>>
>>72525927
you both need to stop shitposting

>>72525927

It's like claiming classical is all the same: same violins, tuba, pianos,... on every "song". Or that MBV is just a rock band with heavily delayed voices and guitars. Bullshit. It matter the end result: the actual music.
>>
>>72525966
>You made a claim.
That wasn't me. But you seriously need to fuck off if you keep on arguing and don't even want to bother listening to her music. Your posts are considered shitposting from now.

>>72526030
>It matter the end result: the actual music.
Them by this logic, Nickleback is original/unique.
>>72526039
>But you seriously need to fuck off if you keep on arguing and don't even want to bother listening to her music
If your logic was sound, it wouldn't be necessary. Just state what's specifically original or fuck off.
>>
>>72525974
You could. I'm not a fan of them but I can't deny they did some original music.
>>
>>72526073
>Them by this logic, Nickleback is original/unique.
By this logic? No buddy. By your flawed logic. As I said, the actual music matters. And Nickelback's music has been done before with better results. Hence, they're not original, but mere copies of copies.
>>
>>72526105
you don't like original musicians? guess you're not worth talking to
>>

That's a different anon. Be more careful.
>>

I don't necessarily like any musician just because they're original, great, whatever. I like what I like. It's a cliche but that's the truth.

I meant that it's harder these days to make something unique in music when so much has been done before already. You have to push the limits and find new ways of artistic expression.
>>
>>72524784

Nickleback aren't meant to be a complicated or heavy metal group, they're clearly a group of simpletons who can brilliantly articulate themselves and speak for the masses in an easily listenable way.

They're not even industry plants, they rewrite all their own songs, all by themselves. Every tune is original and significantly identifiable for Nicklebacks trademark brand of rock music. What they're doing isn't intentionally commercial tripe, like Tame Impala. They're a pack of honest dummies who have kept rock music relevant. They're a pure rock band right down to rock n roll's shallow core.

Wrong examples. They sound nothing like Grimes except for using some synths. Let's face it, you picked them because they're female artists too. That's not enough for your argument. Fail.

I walked into the class and he was having a conversation with some students that seat in front of his desk about music. As everyone started to quiet down for the class to start he said "This is Grimes" and put that song on for its entirety. No one looked like they were enjoying it desu. Fender has further enhanced the range with playlists created specifically for the amps by artists such as Grimes, Joe Bonamassa, Josh Klinghoffer, and Scott Ian.

SHE'S NOT GROUNDBREAKING

she makes synth-based pop music that's mixed badly. idc if you like it but stop trying to pass it off as some visionary masterpiece. it's nothing that hasn't been done a million times before.

>inb4 butthurt anon tells me to post something that sounds like her and then autistically scrutinizes every minute difference
no. there's nothing that sounds EXACTLY like grimes. typically there's nothing that sounds exactly like any other given artist because people don't usually blatantly steal other people's music.

BUT if you can't hear the similarity between her music and the majority of other synthpop/dreampop artists, then you're delusional.

if you want recent stuff that's ACTUALLY groundbreaking then try any of this

Okay. Go ahead and post a million links to SYNTHPOP songs by other artists that sound ALMOST indistinguishable from this one:

Anon, what is supposed to be groundbreaking about any of these songs you posted? People have been making cringily overdone noise compilations and passing them off as music for thousands of years.

>cringily overdone noise compilations
if you're not even going to take the time to listen to the music that i posted, or conversely, you're so musically illiterate that you actually think those are noise, then i'm not going to waste my time arguing with you.

What about you listening to the ONE song that I posted? Where are your links to one million SYNTHPOP songs that sound almost indistinguishable from a song that contains absolutely NO ELEMENTS of standard synthpop? (What you would've noticed about this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpAsOEsamA0 if you had actually listened to it.)

There are NO synths in that song. Apart from six notes played on a regular old piano (3 during the song's intro, 3 during the outro) The entire piece is composed entirely of acoustic guitar, distorted electric guitar, electric bass, drums, and vocals.

either way, it's a generic pop song anon. i can't even believe that you're trying to say that traditionally-structured pop song is experimental and groundbreaking. that's seriously offensive to artists who are working their asses off to be cutting edge.

listen to some actually avant garde music and then compare that with what you're calling groundbreaking

i'm not saying it's bad, but it's so far from experimental
