Electronic music was already bought to the mainstream in early 2000's. Think Daft Punk, think how Black Eyed Peas went electronic after Will.I.Am saw the possibilities of electronically produced music and stated that it was clearly the future of music. What Skrillex did is making that WOBWOBW-W-W-WOB dubstep sound and bringing it to the mainstream, it became trendy for a few years then people moved on.

Also, electronic music pioneered early 70's and hit the mainstream by mid-late 70's and early 80's and didn't fully go away until pretty much right now

as cringy as this is to actually say, the most influential would probably be Daft Punk. almost all modern electronic music is derivative of Discovery, in some form.

Skrillex is very influential to electronic music. his mix of pop and heavy electronic music melded into a magical musical experience that forged an excitement in the EDM genre.
