We ain't dead yet edition
What are you lads currently listening to? For me it's pic related.
>>72461274
Wow I haven't seen that album cover in a long time. I overplayed it to shit unfortunately.
don't die on me lads
>>72461274
blind mr. jones - stereo musicale
tell me, what was the last wild nothing album about?
https://youtu.be/vOYL-GKg-xA
>>72462246
Oh man that was a disappointment, I listened to that right after it was released. I honestly cannot remember the name of
It but I remember it was pretty boring.
more like this? should I check out their other records?
>>72463030
YES
>>72462414
She's a regular qt
been taking a rest from shoegaze from February, getting into neo-psych stuff (Mild High Club, Jerry Paper, Ricky Eat Acid) but now I'm dedusting my old shugazi albums to wait for the new Slowdive (yeah I know it's leaked but I still want to wait)
Listening to pic related. ZOND always blows my mind.
Heard abput new shoegaze albums by Froth, Soft, fucking Trementina, Ride and Secret Shine. 2017 best year since 2015
>>72461274
That's a good album. I should give it another listen.
>>72461274
Can someone redpill me on this album? It was really dull imo, didn't care much for any of the songs outside of Heather and Rheya
>>72463837
sorry, unfortunately you are terminally fagatrocious
>>72463915
b-but I love dream pop. I feel like I should like this album but it's like the most sanitary shit ever.
>>72461274
I still listen to this album on the regular, Rheya is dreamy as fuck. Any more like this?
I think I've found a general that's dedder than /classical/.
>>72464139
Slow today, but I think the general's a bit burnt out after all the Slowdive discussion.
listening to pic related for the first time
sounds like they turned into a pretty generic dreampop band desu
Is there an essentials chart?
>>72464445
Name a single dream pop act from the last two decades that isn't generic.
>>72464835
several
>>72464980
>>72464980
Thanks
>>72461274
hey guys, I stumbled onto something great (imo)
not sure if its been posted here but check it out. its like psychedelic glitchy shoegaze
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoTckblU3pU
https://shmu.bandcamp.com/track/flutes
https://shmu.bandcamp.com/track/harmonic
I don't know why, but I always come back to this.
>>72461274
Am I missing something here? Psychedelic shoegaze sounded like a cool idea but this awful.
All I hear is some shitty lo-fi fuzz covering up a total lack of songwriting some lazy vocals (even for shoegaze). I really want to like this but there's nothing here texturally that isn't done better on a straight noise rock album or a straight shoegaze one.
Why is this band so popular among shoegaze afficianados?
>>72461274
The new 'dive is fucking great.
>>72465936
also Ulver's new one, but that is a synthpop album.
>>72465936
>'dive
sick
>>72465688
Winter's House is the best song he's ever done. The other two are just okay.
>>72466168
Wounded Wolf live sounds amazing for the pure angst. I enjoy Guilt is my Boyfriend, I don't know why. Winter House is absolutely perfect.
>>72461274
Bump
>>72463206
The new Trementina is great, easily their best yet. I can see them getting big within the dream pop world.
>>72465688
I was never crazy about this one.
As overly dramatic as it gets sometimes, the self-titled is just so much darker and more emotional.
New music when Dan
>>72466328
Self-titled is great, but Hinterkaifeck to me added that angst without sounding TOO heavy and suicidal. Also apparently new HANL this year.
Seems to be more Black Wing stuff. I can get behind that.
Dunno how common knowledge this is, but there's an mp3 directory on the enemieslist site you can use to download every demo Dan ever put on his blog there since around 2002-ish. Pretty much everything on the Anno Domini collection, plus more.
>>72466394
>>72466476
new HANL
new Black Wing
holy shit, source?
>>72467027
I know Dan mentioned the new HANL stuff on his Twitter a couple of months ago.
>Have a Nice Meme are doing their first show in years, with Planning For Burial
>It's nowhere near my area
>They implied there would be more shows and those won't be near my area either since they can only do day trips from their home state since they have jobs and shit
I DON'T WANNA LIVE AT AAAAAALL

>>72467240
what about the tour though? Where can I see the dates?
>>72467291
I'm not seeing anything on the twitter or bandcamp. You could always try emailing Dan to see if there's a mailing list you can subscribe to. I'm pretty sure Planning For Burial's on his label, so that'd cover both.
just some real nice jap shugaze, soundtrack to your life kinda shit
can anyone up the new trementina? Its $10 on bandcamp and i cant afford that :(
New Heretoir is super good, shugazi AOTY for me after Slowdive
Straight-up screaming instead of buried "atmospheric" shit is a very nice change of pace from most black gayz
>>72467923
shit that sounds great wasn't too into the singing sections of heretoir when I heard them
only blackgaze that really satisfied the wall or sound power with screaming thing that im looking for is sleeping peonies and they're not really *that* great
>>72468116
Yeah, I wasn't crazy about their first album because it just didn't seem to go anywhere and seemed to be a very watered-down sound, but they've really gotten good for this one. Heavy pretty much throughout, with only a few post-rock sections for breathing room. His clean vocals are a lot better here, when he uses them.

>>72461274
I can't believe how disappointing Wild Nothing's new album was. First track was great, but everything else fell short.
>>72463837
>replying to a 6 hour post
Anyway, I think their other album 'Gemini' might be worth a listen. 'Witching Hour' is my favorite off of that.
>>72469324
hey man, thanks for the recommendation, already digging this album a lot more
Is curve good or are they a meme
>>72471711
G 0 0 D
Why would anyone say they're a meme. I've never seen people say that.
>>72467291
>>72467170
One date in Cambridge MA. I pray that they add a date in CT since I live here and cambridge is sold out
Does anyone have a link to Subsonic Eye's new Strawberry Feels LP? I tried soulseek, blogspots, and vk but couldn't find anything
>>72471711
One of my top bands. Pubic Fruit is a god tier comp of their first 3 eps.
>>72471711
"Curve’s great innovation was marrying densely cloistered electronic rhythms with the approaching onslaught of noise-pop. Prior to their 1992 debut Doppelgänger, such a blend didn't exist, but Curve pioneered the sound that eventually became widespread; their own doppelgänger, Garbage, made a mint with this fusion just a few years later. Curve have stronger ties to shoegaze than Garbage, however, not just because of their timing but also their articulation: Vocalist Toni Halliday and multi-instrumentalist Dean Garcia favor fuzziness in sound and style, letting aesthetics bleed together, preferring sensation over sculpted song. On Doppelgänger, the duo demonstrates a strong melodic sense that’s as apparent in the riffs and rhythms as the verses themselves. Halliday also remains unique in shoegaze: She’s a singer who pushes herself to the forefront, stealing attention from the tidal waves of noise and distortion that surround her."[2]
>>72465736
Recommend me a noise rock album better than it
>>72461274
I love that album. I have the CD in my car, ha.
Listening to Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped. Pink Stream is such a good song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFGF638WDAQ
shoegaze
>>72474955
It's not even noise rock shithead lmfao
>>72465736
The songwriting is this album's strongest asset. Songs like My Dreaming Hill, Make me Dream, and Wish are all damn great pop songs at their foundation
>>72463206
Jerry Paper is great
>>72465736
agree for the most part but my dreaming hill is pretty awesome
>>72465736
space
I never see Roy Montgomery mentioned around these parts
disappointing desu ne
>we aint dead yet edition
You started the thread with Wild Nothing. Yeah. You're dead.
>>72478850
thanks for bumping thread
>>72461274
Ambient and/or slowcore, idk
>>72461274
Currently listening.
>>72467674
>>72479853
Why is Jap shoegaze superior? Pic related.
So when does this get updated?
>>72480356
real slowly
is there any other stuff that should be included on here? i'd be happy to replace something
this is what it's looking like now.
>>72479853
Not sure if you're still here, but how did you like it?
I've heard good things about My Dead Girlfriend, but i have a huge backlog and probably wont end up listening for a while
>>72464445
Thanks for reminding me that this happened. Only a few songs in but I'm alright with this, especially that trip-hop vibe on the second track.
>>72480832
Really exceptional. It's the first I've listened to My Dead Girlfriend but this album is definitely worthwhile for a shugazi fan. The title track is pretty standout. I'll be checking out their other albums.
>>72474862
>>72474585
>>72472206
thanks guys
give me something on par with beach house pls
>>72469324
Aye, Life of Pop had me excited on my first listen then I ended falling asleep during the rest. Haven't gone back to it.
>>72485095
meant Reichpop
>>72462414
This is really good, thanks anon.
Also are cats the official pet of /shugazi/?
>pic related
>>72480832
Listen to it man, I'm doing that at this very moment. One of my favorite j-gaze albums.
rec me some blackgaze good anons. or post a chart, if there is one
>>72485954
Can't find the other chart, but have this at least
>>72485182
yeah cats are great cause you can own one and still never leave the house
I know some are waiting, but I couldn't any longer, Slowdive is my all time favorite.
This album is almost perfect. It is more a sequel to Pygmalion than Souvlaki, but that's just fine. Engaging from beginning to end, I think its better than their previous stuff. Hope they make more.
>>72486492
>more a sequel to Pygmalion than Souvlaki
I feel the exact opposite
>>72486586
>>72486492
Both wrong its more like just for a day and early ep they released
>>72486492
I was disappointed, I wanted them to build on what they did with Pygmalion.
I knew I shouldn't have expected that, but I wanted it so bad.
That said, it's not bad at all. I dig the traditional shoegaze sound.
>>72461274
Acoustic Shadow is gorgeous.
I'm listening to all of Beach House's stuff right now. Childhood, You Came To Me, Lover of Mine, Wild, Levitation, and Rough Song are my current favorites from each album.
>>72485954
was working on this
any thoughts on what to add/remove/replace?
>>72489040
new heretoir's better
>>72480580
>is there any other stuff that should be included on here?

New Heretoir album
>>72465619
Fuck yeah. Check out Zorch, a 2 piece synth/drum band that singer is in also.
>>72461295
I think that's most people's experience with Nocturne. It was probably my favorite Wild Nothing album in 2012, and i can now only listen to Disappear Always and Shadow
>>72478700
People mention Hash jar Tempo sometimes
>>72489040
This thing's a rym meme but it's still super solid
Really atmospheric and spacey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdAloztRU4E
The noise at the beginning is really cool
>>72493283
>>72463030
i need more noisegaze like these, any recs?
>>72493348
Pinkshinyultrablast and Whitenoise Superstar by Astrobrite
Flying Saucer Attack s/t
Tomorrow Never Knows by Xinlisupreme
>>72493283
damn this is good
>>72493495
+1 for Xinlisupreme. I badly need more music like them.
Don't forget Chinese shoegaze.
>>72493985
i listened to uncontrollable ice age stories and it wasn't very good im sorry
Don't care if this is slowcore, it's good and has some great gazey moments.
what do you guys think about Electro Group?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlMs7nOPj_w
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_YI75FcDCg
>>72486492
I mostly only got Pygmalion from Falling Ashes with mere shades of it from the other songs. It mostly reminded me of Souvlaki throughout.
>>72486639
Didn't really hear much Just For A Day in it myself, at least not in the production which seemed to want to emulate Souvlaki.
>>72478173
this
>>72465736
I always found s/t kinda overrated in comparison to fsa's other stuff. Try further, new lands or distance instead.
>>72493985
This, Sinogaze > Japgaze
here are some reccs for my Sinogaze squad:
Faye Wong - Anxiety
河豚子 (fuguko) - 你不是人 (nishibushiren)
Tut - You Got Me When I Stare At You
Forsaken Autumn - Whenere
Dear Eloise - Uncontrollable, Ice Age Stories
Boyz and Girl - Boyz and Girl
We should make a chart for chinese and taiwanese shugazi
name a better song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-JQe3f6tc0
alright lads, lets get an essential list for every damn shoegaze general thread ever
>somebody requesting the essentials flow chart
>somebody giving in and posting them
>people asking for reccs based on the same 5 albums
>people reccing the same 10 albums
>what did people think of X?
>currently listening to X, thoughts?
>posting the same albums every damn thread
never change /shugazi/, never change
>>72497123
don't forget the trash metaposts like yours that add nothing of value to the thread

>discussing shoegaze in the shoegaze general
s-sorry
>>72493985
Farewell to the Summer is one of my favorite albums of all time.
>>72496171
City Girl is great but She Found Now and really most of mbv is significantly better than this.
>>72497719
she found now is my favorite song in their discography desu
What is the album with the Japanese lady and her son sitting on a couch? I had a link for it and now I've completely lost it.
Can you guys recommend me music similar to Headache?
>>72497900
Tsumanne
>>72498078
Thank you kindly, anon.
>>72485954
I've never understood why these lyrics are so famous.
Sure they set the mood well and are at an high point in the album, but did most people listening really understand those lyrics without looking them up? They just seem kinda lost in the noise
>>72496026
>河豚子 (fuguko) - 你不是人 (nishibushiren)
this is sick, sampling some tunes on youtube now
>>72497765
It is a great track. Would probably be in my top 5 if Loveless didn't exist.
>>72498194
>did most people listening really understand those lyrics without looking them up?
No, absolutely not. People like them just because they're depressing and easy to shitpost. Most albums that are popular on the internet have a set of lyrics people constantly refer to to meme with the album. Usually these people have only heard the album once or so and are just posting shit to fit in.
Loveless for example: "CLOSE MY EYES FEEL ME NOW I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU COULD NOT LOVE ME NOW"
>>72462128
I love this one. One of the first i downloaded when I first started visiting these threads a long time ago. Anything with a similar vibe to this?
Hoops - Routines is fucking amazing
>>72494336
9/10
great album
>>72498807
>Hoops - Routines
its on rutracker and apollo btw
>>72498194
I've listened to the album many times and still had no idea it was from sunbather
>>72498194
Pretty sure people just say cause it's mentioned a lot. I don't think anyone can really make out the words just from listening to it.
>>72497919
Guitars in that track remind me of Kenotic, especially Blankets of Night.
>>72464445
wow! big fan of them from their metalish shoegaze times. This change is huge, not even remotely far from their original genre, and still being awesome.
Anything similar to Airiel?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whszf4xTtLM
Bump before bed
>>72498353
yeah but in ymmr they have a lyric which goes "you can close your eeeyyyyeesss, but you might as well commit suicide". so the whole thing links cause you don't love someone who wants you dead right?
>>72501805
and he probably smoked a bunch of kush with dem creation funds so he can't even remember the lyrics he's made before, hence "I don't know how", or its that he doesn't remember how he got to making them.
>>72500341
Airiel is like one of the few shoegaze/dream pop bands to consistently write 8-10 minute songs
