Well I've been listening to Suf since Illinoise came out, I still think C&L is the culmination of his pure folk sound. There isn't a single wasted moment on that album, whereas even something as great as Illinoise has some excess. So I don't know what your definition of "newfag" is.

It's also no less "poppy" than C&L (p4k and hipsters loved the album), Suf is great because he never sacrifices catchy/emotional songwriting for technical wank (or at least, he does so sparingly).
