I concur
Bill Evans. Yeah, he's a white guy, so what?
>>72426913
Solo: Art Tatum
Ensemble: Oscar Peterson
Composer: Bill Evans
Peterson was such a good team player for someone of his brilliance.

i love peterson so much, maybe him
>>72426913
i could never pick one favorite but monk is something else man, i mean just on an incomprehensible level as a musician and composer. I know more monk tunes then songs written by any other composer. he was truly an american original that should get more recognition. Him and trane should have busts in the white house.
Sun Ra
Keith Jarrett
Hancock
Monk

>Bill Evans. Yeah, he's a white guy, so what?
I've good news for you anon. This is an imagined stigma that hasn't been a dominant viewpoint among jazz fans for decades. Congrats. You can listen to whoever you want regardless of race.

first time on 4chan?
Paul Bley
>>72430712
I wish.
Also, 4chan users don't make up a majority of jazz fans surprisingly enough and the jazz fans on /mu/ aren't a typical 4chan or /mu/ demographic,

For the "classic" guys, it's either Chick Corea or Keith Jarrett.
For modern pianists I'd probably say Tigran Hamasyan.

Good choice. Only heard his most recent two but they were fucking incredible.
>>72430920
An Ancient Observer and which other one? He's put out a few albums over the last two years. Either way his entire discog is solid with a lot influence from different styles.

Atmospheres. That sampling work on it was genius. Never heard anything like it.
