Hey /mu/
I'm going on a Bob Dylan binge, and I was wondering if there was a certain order I should listen to his albums in, or if there is an "essentials" that I should just listen to.
ty lads
I mean it just depends on your dedication to it, but pretty much everything from his debut to Desire is worth listening to if you really wanna go chronologically.

If you're asking where to start to into Bob Dylan, probably Bringing It All Back Home, as that album bridges his early acoustic sound with his mid-60's electric phase. The essential Dylan albums are pretty much every studio album he made in the 60's plus Blood on the Tracks and Desire. Listen to all of those in whatever order you'd like.

Oh yeah and his "bootleg series" live albums are great, check out the volumes 4 & 5.

Don't skip his modern albums.
In terms of essentials, I like all his albums except Knocked Out Loaded and Christmas in the Heart. Those also aren't very essential. You should probably wikipedia every album before you listen to it, because it'll give you some idea of what he was writing about and responding to
I hate these fucking threads. You go chronologically. You always go chronologically.

Stale meme is stale.
Only Dylan's 1961-66 stuff and the mid-70s albums are essential, the rest can be ignored.
Check out his bootleg vol. 10, Another Self Portrait. It has out takes from Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait, and New Morning. Overall a nice set of covers and some traditional songs. Almost makes up for self portrait since the songs from SP on here don't have the unnecessary over dubbed instruments
Anyone know where to get that Cash Dylan bootleg?
just listen to Blood On the Tracks and be done
I would say chronological in Dylan's case. It's interesting to hear that transformation in the 60s into his electric phase.
But if I had to pick just one as a solid introduction to Dylan I think it would be Highway 61 Revisited.
