how do i get into punk?
ive tried a lot of babby's firsts like ramones, sex pistols, etc. but wasn't a big fan
>i really enjoyed pic if that helps
>>72406712
That does not help at all. Also you really shouldn't get into punk through those two
If you like that album, try getting into post-punk first. Might help
>>72406712
Let me give it to you straight, OP. The Ramones, the Clash, and Green Day are not and never were punk. They are pop rock at its most watered down accessibility. Punk is not about the speed, and it's not about the voice. It's about anger and a socio-political message. The Crucifucks, No Trend, and Flux of Pink Indians are the greatest punk bands of all time, and if you can't handle their image than fuck off and listen to Radiohead.

shit i knew punk fags were edgelords but damn...
>>72406712
How the hell is pic related punk

The best punk album is Zen Arcade
Flipper, Germs, Bad Brains, >>72407168, Black Flag, >>72407201, Mission of Burma, Fugazi, Refused
>>72407201
This would probably be my pick for best punk album if pic related didnt exist

the best way to get into punk is to go to shows honestly. I was into punk as a kid because my dad was way into punk (oi and other skin stuff mostly) but i wasnt too into it as a teen until i went to a random house show at 17. after that night i started to really love punk but honestly i only like punk music that seems like it would be fun to listen to live. like i dont like things that sound like >>72407168 simply because i cant see myself skanking, moshing, or really moving to this song in any way other than maybe just nodding my head. for me, punk music has to have a good amount of energy
>>72407288
also, as a general rule of thumb, punk ep's tend to be better than the albums (((((imo))))) because they are grittier and i guess just more raw sounding.
I probably only have this opinion bc i think punk music was made to be played live, and under-produced ep's sound more like live music than studio records
>ep version
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynwdUUDLlO0
>album version
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSfdYw-JqbU
perhaps this isnt the best example bc i actually like the album version too, but i think the ep version is better. it sounds way more aggressive
I'd suggest X as great starting place. There is a poppy feeling but definitely a punk vibe. Plus it's just one of the best punk albums
Also these >>72407269 >>72407288
Skrewdriver
>>72406712
Just listen to protopunk or post-punk instead.
>>72406712
(((Jeff Rosenstock)))
>>72408546
And then there's this asshole.
Throw in post-rock and a rap album or two and you're now /mu/ approved.
>>72406712
Fugazi influenced him a lot I think. Could be worth looking into
>>72406993
Do you realize you and people like you are the reason why punk is dead and will never return. The Clash knew the score back in 1980 and moved on to far greener pastures, and as such they are one of the greatest bands of all time. Punk is not about anger of a social-political message. Punk can be whatever the fuck it wants to be. That's the nature of punk. So go back to the mirror, re-gel your mohawk and put more safety pins in your jacket.
And the bands you mentioned suck. But thankfully you deserve them.

Listen to G.B.H, the Exploited, and the first three Misfits albums. Also, Black Flag is good. I rec My War, Loose Nut and Damaged.
>>72406712

>>72406712
I can't help you with regular punk, but I like hardcore punk/d-beat which goes more towards the extreme end of the spectrum. Maybe you like this more.

Jay Reatard my friends, most of his stuff is more toned down than this song though it remains a fun as fuck song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmjNqk7dduQ
>>72409915
What >>72409962 said. It seemed like you were posturing a contrarian stance.
I've gotten into punk by going into those bookend approved genres like most of us poseurs on this board :^)

>>72410147
Oh yeah I love rosenstock lol, I just meant the other guy might like fugazi if he wants to get even punkier

>>72410304
PUP is good shit too!
>>72406712
If you like Worry I'd say start with what's going on now
>FIDLAR
>Together PANGEA
>Wavves
>The Frights
And so on until you've decided you like it enough to continue. Then progress backwards, because that's a dramatic shift. Punk's been changed and altered so much over the decades that I understand the shock. The chart's /mu/ came up with are pretty good, but I think during the 2000s and on ward the line between emo, and pop punk become blurred
