Same. All I hear are blast bleats.

>>72350641
Good pick, total trash using keyboards and shit production to obscure their lack of decent riffs and trick people into thinking they're "symphonic". Easily the most overrated of the big Norwegian bands.

>it's so dark
>you can really hear his struggle with drugs
>wow drum machines so funky
>family affair has such a catchy chorus, who would think that repeating a song title over and over is catchy
I mean, it's certainly not a BAD album, it has a few really good songs but it makes sense how people that don't actually listen to funk and soul music pretend to adore this one at the expense of nearly everything else (outside of a couple token Parliament-Funkadelic records). It's like a retrospective Cobain effect or something. Their earlier albums were mostly much better, and I'll take many albums from the Isleys, the O'Jays, the Ohios, the Temptations, etc over it as well.

LOL I bet you think boring atmoshit like Burzum is good
>>
>>72350863
>implying early Emperor isn't atmoshit
I'm a fan of Mayhem, Darkthrone, and first-wave stuff, not keyboard Playstation-soundtrack-core.
>>
>>72350863
I also don't much care for Burzum.
>>
>>72350863
>criticize Emperor for lack of riffs
>"LOL YOU MUST LIKE BURZUM"

In what world is this logical?
>>
>>72350844

It's one of those formative post-punk releases, what with it doing the whole moody ambience and icy production thing like a year before Joy Division did it. That said, it is a pretty odd album overall so I feel you. It's not even weird in a way that's trying too hard, it's just...weird. I do think Practice Makes Perfect is a 10/10, though.

I think Stand! is better (only really listened to those two so far, heard Fresh is supposed to be good, any thoughts?) but Sly has a special cadence when he sings on this one, and the sort of catchy, a little "dark" (highly exaggerated the darkness,I think). Drum machine use was very new and innovative at the time, too.

Where post-rock started to go wrong
>>
>>72351031
Fresh is really good too, but yeah Stand is the pinnacle. There's a Riot Goin On is definitely a unique album, I just can't stand it when people pretend it's an album you HAVE to like if you like funk, when it sounds so little like 99% of the funk out there. It just sounds so exhausted.
>>
>>72350844
what don't you get? Do you like Pink Flag?
>>
>>72350857
Oh, and any happy funk recs for me? I really love sunny funk catchy funk like Mothership Connection (The Chronic is one of my favorite albums ever, samples that and Parliament-Funkadelic a lot)

Pretty easy. Big fan of shoegaze but the more ethereal side. I think I don't like this as I got to shoegaze through a backdoor namely the band Curve.
>>
>>72351219

That makes sense. For me, I think Loveless hits a happier medium between noisy and ethereal. There's tons of bands that operate on either extreme but it's hard to think of any that blend them as harmoniously as Loveless does. Loveless is one of those albums that really looks like it shouldn't work on paper and yet somehow it does. Spectacularly so, at that.

As a contrarian opinion,I like Empreror, but I don't fully understand what is the appeal of this album. Many hood tracks but overall very messy album with boring lyrical themes.
>>
>>72351148
For funk in that specific party-funk style, I'd say (aside from more Parliament/Funkadelic and their various side-projects of course)...

The Brothers Johnson - Look Out for #1
The Commodores - Caught in the Act
The Fatback Band - Keep On Steppin'
Ohio Players - Pain/Pleasure/Ecstasy

Yank Crime is one of my favorite albums of all time, so when I heard about Spiderland being some Math-Rock/Post-Rock/Post-Hardcore masterpiece, I was pretty excited. But, I still really don't understand the love for Spiderland. I think it's good, but not amazing or anything. It's been three years ever since my first listen and I still don't exactly get it.

>>72350641
I'm not really even into metal in general, but I instantly enjoyed this album honestly.

>>72350747
At first, I thought the same. It was quite uninteresting to me. But after I started listening to Kyuss, I revisited Dopethrone and loved it.

>>72351058
You mean right before Post-Rock started to go wrong. :^)

>>72351219
Would you consider Souvlaki one of your favorite Shoegaze albums?
>>
Unknown pleasures
>>
>>72352258
it's acclaimed for it's post-rock attributes more than the mathy or hardcore side - they work together really well but if you're looking for an album like yank crime - spiderland isn't it.
production wise its very normal, noise is used very sparingly

but compositionally its incredible. the song structures and textures are completely unlike any rock music before it (any anons wanting to prove me wrong feel free to try)
listen really closely to washer or good morning captain - listen to the way they pick their guitars, the dynamics, the slow builds, the eerie atmosphere

any anons saying its renowned because its about social anxiety and feels are retarded
