Gangnam Style
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJey74gmkLY
>>72314038
yeah but that sucks whereas the gotye song is unironically pretty good
GOTYE kind of looking like someone I used to know:
>>72314060
You asked for the biggest hit ever not the best hit ever.
i can give you the best hit ever though.
>>72314038
Biggest hit of 2012: Somebody that I Used to Know, #47: Gangnam Style
(Also no idea why this thread exists)
How did this get so many views yet no one gave a fuck about anything else this guy ever put out? Furthermore how did a middle of the road indie pop song from some unknown foreign artist hit #1 worldwide?
>>72314135
because it's an absolute banger
>>72314106
i'm taking both quality and popularity into account and weighing both of them together, considering that i don't think anything tops somebody that i used to know
>>72314141
yeah it's pretty good especially for a top 40 song in the 2010s but i just want to know where did it come from and how did it blow up? there's many songs and artists like this that don't get nearly as big yet he did it.
>>72314106
what is it?
>>72314135
>How did this get so many views yet no one gave a fuck about anything else this guy ever put out?
That's your curse when you make it to Billboard's Top 40. Even huge names have album stuff that go right under the radar.
>>72314032
>Raping kino brazillian beat with those dirty annoying vocals
Gotye didn't deserved sucess.
Kimbra was cute tho.

>>72314284
literally don't think there has been a bigger hit this century than that, at least in the uk, somebody that i used to know maybe comes close. correct me if i'm wrong
>>72314032
This song was such shit. I never understood why it was popular.
>>72314240
>Kimbra was cute tho.
She's actually a pretty good pop artist. Way better than Gotye.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHTsc9PU2A
>>72314060
Jesus, no. The Psy song is catchy. Somebody That I Used To Know is one of the worst hit songs of the 10s so far.
>>72314411
literally not as big a hit
>>72314411
Fuck that song. This song is better.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVpv8-5XWOI
>>72314135
bots, literal bots.
bots could bypass youtube's system for awhile up until 2013 or so.
avril lavigne had the top slot for awhile because of bots.
my local radio station had gotye do a show for them just a few months after the single broke, the dj/program director thought he'd sell out a 3000+ venue easily, he got about 200 max, this is in a slightly above middle sized city in the us
do you remember when youtube used to have thir youtube celebs on the front page of youtube everyday? like shaytards and the like? all bought by bots.
source about the bots - i used them, and got 500,000+ views for 100 bucks.
>>72314126
youtube views are more important than sales now, grandpa
>>72314060
There are people who unironically think this?
>>72314411
>>72314472
Fuck both of these songs. Literal cancer. Might as well throw this one in too while we're on the topic of worst songs of the 2010s
https://youtu.be/Y66j_BUCBMY
>>72314472
Oh god, I remember this shit being EVERYWHERE. And no one gives a shit about Train anymore either.
>>72314517
it literally is a banger
Biggest one: imagine
>>72314083
lmao dude thats fukcing hilarious
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY SEXY LADYYY
>>72314568
If by banger you mean in the running for one of the worst radio faux hipster songs ever, then I agree.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqeW9_5kURI
>tfw I was jerking it to the uncensored version of this video months before it blew up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyDUC1LUXSU
>>72314135
Kimbra didn't catch on either, I never understood why
>>72314724
yeah Naked women in music videos is some kinky shit for some reason
>>72314695
terrible post
no one cares about ur ironic tastes in shitty pop music, we're talking about objective hits here
>>72314411
Ukelele covers of this song make me want to forgot about the late 2000s
>>72314724
not bigger than op song, this is literally 3rd tier hit
>>72314746
She is an angel too pure for the unwashed masses.
No one here mentioned Taylor Swift?
>>72314892
What's her biggest hit.
Bad Blood?
>>72314557
I've never heard this song outside commercials and I don't plan on listening to it now
>>72314939
Blank Space and Shake It Off both have over 2 billion views each, and Bad Blood has over 1 billion
No anon that would be baby by Justin Bieber
>>72314992
T-swift got two songs with more views
>>72314829
>implying that isnt a perfect pop song
fucking mongo cunt lmao
The Elliott smith song is way better anyways
>>72315091
>implying that has anything to do with this thread
Purchase a firearm, point it at your head, pull trigger.
>>72314746
>>72314885
Vows at least was very good.
>>72314981
the difference is taylor swift is very youtube generation, the gotye song was popular before we had loads of 8 year old watching youtube vids on their i-pads. somebody that i used to know definitely made more of an impact on the radio and the general psych , i literally don't think there has been a bigger hit than it, at least not since a very long time
>>72314557
I've grown past my edgy high school phase of getting assmad at pop songs, but this shit makes me want to blow my brains out. that being said, it should be kept in a vault, this song and video are the most 2010s shit I can think of. it's all in there.
>>72315365
Gangnam Style was much bigger.
>>72315384
yeah but gangnam style is objectively awful so it doesnt count
>nobody's posted this yet

>>72314083

I also thought of the wiseau when I saw album pic
>>72314135

I never thought i'd hate a band more than Imagine Dragons but Chainsmokers came in and did the impossible.

Thrift Shop recently broke 1 billion
>>72317492
thats nowhere near as big a hit gotye
>>72317524
*as gotye
>>72315543
Fuck off, What I like About you has a p. good and catchy guitar riff.
if you weight these 3 factors in to account-
popularity
impact
quality
i don't think there exists a bigger hit than gotye-somebody that i used to know, ever
prove me wrong, protip: you can't
>>72317524
just look at what hits stayed at number 1 the longest if you need to find a hit bigger than gotye.
>>72317586
thrift shop literally sucks, more factors going in to making something a hit than just being '''''popular'''', i.e youtube hits from 8 year olds on i-pads
>>72317622
no even fucking cares about gotye and that song so its impact was literally zero.
>>72317665
they do though because it's literally memorable, not saying that it's that amazing or anything (i dont even like it that much) but taking all things into account i would say it's defo the biggest hit of the century at least
>>72314451
Under what circumstances is that one of the worst pop songs of the past 10 years?
It's a very predictable song about relationships. And it's not even outstanding because of how generic it is
Fuck off nigger
>>72317473
I've just heard this and I'm already tired of it
>>72314083
Oh hai Mark
>>72317750
stop reddit spacing, it's not going to make what you say any more worth reading , no need to spread it out like that cunt
>>72314060
I think it was good for the time, but isn't aging the best. Or maybe it's just that that song came out literally right after me and my first serious gf broke up and it was too real, and that shit was everywhere for months.
amateurs the lot of you
there's been no hit banger like this in the whole decade
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPf0YbXqDm0
>>72315684
Bruh I fucked with that album a lot. Loved some of the vibes they were putting out like this gem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRC--2qC_Qs
As for this thread? I can for sure say that "Somebody That I Used To Know' was such a good crossover hit. It started on the alternative stations and ended up being a huge hit after a few months. It reminds me of "Pumped Up Kicks" in that way where I heard Foster the People a few months before they broke out and then suddenly all my friends loved a band I'd been trying to shove down their throats for months.
I wouldn't call it the biggest hit ever, but it for sure was a moment when pop kinda changed. Now there's a lot more """"""indie""""""" hits that end up on the radio like American Authors and The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons. If it weren't for them Ed Sheeran probably wouldn't be as popular.
