where does prod find their samples
>>
>>72220406
everywhere. for drum samples ill just download random sample packs. i will also record myself hitting random objects and use that.

one way to get samples thats super fun is to watch a movie/tv show/anime with the purpose of finding samples in it. you can do this with stuff that's not very good and it makes watching it fun anyways. ive found tons of cool sounds this way.
>>
what's the magic trick with chords. I can do a progression, do a bunch of stuff on it and when I switch all the chords out with different ones from the same scale it sounds good but in a different way. I feel it my lack of understanding prevents me from developing the song more effectively over time

hows dis for a start?

it's difficult to criticize this textural stuff. every instrument could be tweaked and it'd take the piece in a different direction.

I'm not terrible familiar with this kind of music but my frame of reference is basically aphex twin for stuff that's "flat" and abrasive without becoming undynamic, oneohtrix point never for that "artificial" sound in terms of the scales and how the instruments are played and modern edm I guess, in the sense of the wide palettes of textures that are all used in the service of lush and spacious sound

right now I can hear a bit of it all but maybe you should try pushing one idea more than others, it strikes me as a bit schizophrenic rn

more specifically I think the synth at 1.20 should be rehauled. it could work really well as a oneohtrix point never kind of thing but you need to get it just right
>>
>>72222042
thats interesting, i didnt make the connection to the opn artificial sound thing when I was making it myself. im not too good at sound design unfortunately, but ill definitely have a shot at improving the synth's character.

i can totally agree on the schizo part but all of my tracks are schizo, heh

how does this sound as a basis for a track?

wew
this is pretty is great. when i saw how it looked on clyp i thought it was going to be boring shit, but damn. its great so far, keep working on it. sounds like needs to have a climax right at the point where it ends. i think this is the first time im recommending someone on /prod/ make a track longer instead of shorter
>>
>>72223018
I really like this, v good start, I'd slap some heavier bass in there tho if it was me.

does my slayer sound too slayer?
>>
>>72223679
Thanks, it's just the main idea for a track, the structure isnt there quite yet.
I'm thinking of making it very dynamic, building it up, bulding it down into atmospheric ambient and then building up again to drum&bass, then it sort of winds down again, the whole thing should pan out to about 5-7 mins if I manage to keep it interesting enough.

interesting sounds...

someone maybe give some mixing/production tips on this? listened to way too much boc and just had to try to make something in their vein of music
https://clyp.it/lzvckj55
plz be honest

>listened to way too much boc and just had to try to make something in their vein of music
i know the feeling. intro seems a bit long and drawn out. the first minute could be condensed wayyy shorter than it is.

i like how it doesnt sound quite like youre trying to copy boc with how you do your drums. copying boc always leads to disappointment but you can be boc influenced and not straight up copy them, and i think your drum programming is doing this pretty well. as a whole the track moves a bit slow though, and could be condensed a lot without losing anything. if you want it to be as long as it is, it might be good to write a contrasting section to rid it of its monotony. im not sure how i feel about the melody towards the end. might be good to try messing around with it some. as i said before i do like your drum programming on it.

1. Will you do drums for me if I pay you 100000$?
2. Is there an easy way to map your voice to an instrument so you can use it like a midi tool? I do stuff acapella because otherwise I have to use melodyne to see what notes I'm humming and it slows me down
3. Are you supposed to edit the volume for vocals manually or is it because I don't know how to compress?

*never mind the link to your post, that was an accident
