>tfw ferraro is the only one who hasn't sold out

dean made a shitty hip hop album
opn made a shitty nu-metal edm album
now arca makes this eurovision shit

is the weird frontier over?
>>
> this eurovision shit
y'all need to stop this bait right now
probably the most irrelevant comparison ever made on this fucking board
>>
>>72090756
>is the weird frontier over?
yeah
sadly
>>
Ferraro sold out when he made Human story 3 a sequel to his widely popular FSV. People didn't give a shit about nyc hell or skidrow, or any other album which doesn't have an obvious vaporwave vibe.

All of them sold out. All of them are pitchfork approved. There's nothing weird about them anymore.
>>
>>72090774
arcafags are truly the new grimesfags
>>
Haven't listened to Arca since the early days, been catching up. Not listened to s/t yet, but I thought Xen was good, and Mutant was a bit dull. Currently listening to Stretch 2 and It's pretty great.
>>72090787
where should I start with Ferraro? There's so much fucking stuff
>>
>>72090774
>the bait
>the most irrelevant comparison ever made on this fucking board
What else you want to believe?
>>
yo someone share a link plz
>>
>>72090756
but garden of delete is good anon
>>
>>72090824
Well Grimes has nothing good, and is essentially just hype, but Arca is at least interesting beyond any ideas of fashion
>>
>dean made a shitty hip hop album
well sounds like you missed the point of the album but ok
>>
>>72090830

Go to RYM, check out his most rated albums. He has so much shit but honestly only 5 or so albums are worth checking out.
>>
>>72090756
you call any of that selling out? all of those things partially alienated their fanbases and did not appeal to wider crowds. ferraro made a fucking ariel pink sounding hypnagogic pop album. and did outer limitz recordings? are those not meme of the moment albums appealing to popular trends? arca, opn, dean are making shit that doesnt have wide appeal. deans most accessible stuff was probably the first half of black metal. opns most accessible was games/ ford and lopatin or r +7. its clear all these artists are interested in working with popular music trends and subverting them and examining the philosophical questions that govern popular culture. none have sold out. and none of the examples you listed are even close to the most accessible stuff any of them have released...
>>
>>72090846
>Arca is at least interesting beyond any ideas of fashion
that's where you're wrong
you've basically proved my words again
>>
>>72090849
Yeah, I don't think I could say that Dean Blunt has ever made any good music, but he has made some great albums
>>
>>72090849
oh yeah its an shitty "art" hip hop album. sorry dean
>>
>>72090756
>he doesn't like neither BBF nor Arca

kys
>>
>>72090875
ehh my point was grimes is popular because she is in part quite attractive, and dresses in an interesting manner. A lot of her appeal is based on her, rather than her music. Not that this is anything new in music, but it's pretty egregious with her because she has nothing to back it up.

I mean when visions was getting hype all the websites were going on and on about how it was recorded on garageband ffs.
>>
>>72090846
>arca
>more than just hype and ideas of fashion
So... arcafags are truly the new grimesfags?
>>
>>72090883
Some tracks are individually great music (God Hour, Skywalker Freestyle, the entirety of Stone Island) but yeah BBF isn't really an album of tracks in the way most other albums are.
>>
>>72090756
also if you think that's selling out then you need to go out your fucking basement. "Sell-out" artists are artists like Drake, Chainsmokers, etc. You don't find normies playing either Arca or Dean Blunt.
>>
>>72090935
ahh come on, you can't suggest for one second that Arca has used personal image to promote their music in the same way grimes has.
>>
>>72090924
>ehh my point was grimes is popular because she is in part quite attractive, and dresses in an interesting manner. A lot of her appeal is based on her, rather than her music. Not that this is anything new in music, but it's pretty egregious with her because she has nothing to back it up.

change the word 'grimes' with 'arca' and add the word 'gay' because that's really fashionable now and it's still relevant

>it was recorded on garageband ffs
i dont get that 'garageband is bad' meme like have you ever used it? you can do a lot with it if you want to
>>
>>72090970
>you can't suggest for one second that Arca has used personal image to promote their music in the same way grimes has
actually I can since that's exactly what he did
>>
>>72090970
If you take a peek at his Facebook or Twitter that's exactly what he's been doing

Xen is the patrician Arca album. Anyone who disagrees is a literal faggot.
>>
>is the weird frontier over?

yes, start listening to real electronic music now
>>
>>72091093
It's his best but Mutant is his patrician album desu
>>
>>72090872
the weird frontier are a bit weirder than your regular sellouts, but they're still sellouts
>>
>>72090756
the fringes have been marginalized and the idea of "underground avant culture" appeals to normies now which is pretty much forcing the frontier artists into making their most grab-bag stuff in hopes of money longevity
try some experimental electronic stuff out of russia/ukraine/denmark
>>
>>72090756
ferraro can't sell out because he sucks
>>

no she's not lmfao

Tim Hecker? A.G Cook?

we can't let the meme die

Garden of Delete is literally OPN's least accessible album. Even including his old kosmiche stuff.
>>
>>72090756
419 and bbf hosted by dj escrow were great... The entire uk hip hop/grime critique must've went right over your empty skull.
>>
>>72091047

...Like Brokeup? Sure, that's completely understandable (it's a banger) but you should probably tell them that it's a track about getting fucked in the ass too hard (literally)

No, Tim Hecker's like 65 and has been making variations the same music for a decade

Not that anon, but how can you possibly say anything collected in Rifts is less accessible than the messier tracks off GoD?

theyre ancinet. i would say elysia crampton, perry trollope (/f, pq:f, susan balmar), amnesia scanner, etc but all of their most important works are 2 years or older at this point. there hasnt been that much of signifacance lately. stuff that combines philosophical ideas and cultural awareness in a well crafted sonic form. perhaps stuff from the label chore wheel or psalmus diursae yet the best releases from there are a few years old already...
>>
>>72093419
>taking an EDM term thus far
you know that even some of the most mainstream EDM aren't that much of a dance music, right?
>>
>>72093389
You're just being a shithead now, most of GoD couldn't reasonably be called pop, and Rifts is hardly a difficult listen for anyone with an attention span
>>
>>72093442

Why, because it has very melodic parts?
Show Parallel Minds to someone on the street, and then show them I Bite Through It; they'll say the latter is far easier to listen to.
This is a really dumb argument

That should be former, obviously

american drift is a deeply profound work. transforming the cultural signifiers of mundane overused smaplepacks and soundfonts and simplistic beats yet transforming them through repetition creating a minimalist high art low art melting point. repetition of low brow simulacra transforms a lil john sample into a voice of a heavenly choir. a minamilst bliss and drone. reconditioning ideas about priority in music for classically ytained elitist sentiments. the tools are at the hands of all regardless of financial backrground, class race or gender. transforming white centric thoughts on high art into a voice for all. its mind blowing stuff and the most important work of the 21st century so far

Ferraro sold out with Human Story 3's literal starbucks-core tier garbage. Easy listening classical anyone can make with a couple samples thrown in the middle.

Babyfather has some sick beats and does jump genres pretty often.

GoD is OPN's most dense work by far.

Arca's changing the pop game, and the record is truly hitting the weird frontier more than any record made by these four.
