how the fuck do i make a full track, i can only make something 30/40 seconds long
>>
learn music theory
>>
make grindcore
>>
>>72081973
I already know music theory
>>
repeat everything 3 times
>>
>>72081961
once you get to 30/40 seconds, instead of stopping like you usually would, carry on going.
>>
>>72081973

How does this help? Just because you know theory doesn't mean you'll have enough judgement to be able to finish a track
>>
>>72081999
kek
>>
>>72081961
take 2 of your songs that are similar and stick them together
play them one after the other until they get boring
its called having multiple parts in a song anon
>>
Op, you need to save your tracks and work on it again another time. Even doing 40 seconds can be creatively draining, you need to build upon it over time instead of forcing yourself to finish it in a few hours. Also try to actually go back and work on tracks instead of starting new ones every day.
>>
>>72081999
This is good advice
>>
>>72082026
that's what i do, but everything comes out after doesn't fit the vibe of the song very well
>>
>>72082023
already tried, doesn't work like that
>>
>>72082042

Just keep trying, you'll eventually get the hang of it. Listen to lots of music as well and don't be afraid to take inspiration where ever you might find it
>>
>>72082051
alright, thank you
>>
>>72082008

you will have more ideas
>>
>>72081961
Think Opening/Verse/Chorus/Verse/Bridge (key change, longer than Verse and Chorus)/Reprise of Chorus/Closing

Should be limited to 3 minutes to Five Minutes 30 seconds
>>
>>72082120
>key change
don't fucking do this
>>
>>72082127
Why not? Gives the track an edgy "experimental" feel

Also, OP, limit Verse and Chorus to 16 bars, Bridge can be 24 - 32 bars
>>
>>72082165
>Gives the track an edgy "experimental" feel
no?
it sound cheesy and safe
>>
>>72082196
Alright, OP, key change optional at bridge (depending on your intended audience)

Also, OP, Opening and Closing should be 8 bars. Maybe stretch the closing if you wind up with something that's good for a fadeout

witch house & darkwave
>>
>>72082120
alright, thanks
>>
>>72081961
It's your opening theme Christ's sake
You've said something in 30 seconds but you need to tell it to our audience
They've got drinks to drink and chicken dinners to get through or tabs to take hold
You all got to go somewhere
>>
>>72081961
Nothing wrong with short songs. No need to make something longer than it needs to be.
>>
>>72081999
kek'd and check'd
>>
>>72081961
Do what the residents did and just make minute long tracks
>>
>>72081999
the sad part is he's right
>>
>>72081961
I wish I knew. My only advice is to make lots of little tracks till you have a big thing.

you have the knowledge to break down songs, knowing how and why they work and how to apply that your own works, the most obvious ones being song structures and the frequent use of a few chord progressions in popular music.

Trips of truth. You can do it OP!

I think many books cover the essentials of melodic motif and its derivates. I'm pretty sure you'd need huge harmony, rhythm and melodic line knowledge if you want to make something decently contemporary and not shit simple music.
>>
>>72081999
Well, this is barebones advice to be honest. what if he's doing it wrong? Why are you giving him advice without checking his work?

pls never be a teacher
>>
>>72082454
See there's your problem
>>
>>72084787
lol, what should i do then
>>
Sounds like you're not really moving past the initial moment of inspiration. Don't expect the whole process to be effortless just because the basic idea came together quickly (which is pretty common). Developing the structure and making edits takes discipline and patience, and can often feel frustrating or tedious.

A few other things to note. First, don't be overly self-critical, especially when you're just beginning, otherwise you're going to paralyze yourself with unmet expectations.

Second, take the time to study musical forms/approaches you haven't tried before, just for the sake of learning more about the entire subject. Set aside time to make "study" compositions that aren't intended for performing/recording.

Thank you

>>72085085
i'd rather trigger the /mu/tant
>>
(Intro) verse / chorus / verse / chorus / bridge / chorus / chorus (Outro)

Simple. Extend the intro or outro to personal preference. Usually, +8-minute songs are like 60% intro, anyway.

Swans are an exception.
