This. The first time I heard the cover, it was after hearing about how amazing it was. I spent almost its entire length trying to figure out if all the praise was some elaborate joke because it's fucking terrible. And pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a nu-metal band covering a folk song. It's cliched, overly melodramatic, overwrought, and completely misses the point of the song. It definitely deserved mention as one of the worst covers ever, and it still baffles me that most people seem to like it.

On a related note, that country cover of "Life in a Northern Town" that was popular a few years ago is awful for pretty much the same reasons. And it makes just as much sense that an American country band would do a terrible job with a song about Thatcher-era nostalgia in northern England. But people seemed to like it, too.
