Kendrick is selling out so hard with this album. It's going to be hilarious watching his fans squeal trying to enjoy it when deep down all they wanted was another critic bait album with a perfect metacritic score to jerk off to.
>>
are all the p4k drones still on kendrick's dick?

it's crazy how many people pretend TPAB is anywhere near the achievements of section 80 and GKMC just because a few critics told them so

who said anything about opinions?

TPAB, UU, Heart IV and Humble are objectively worse than basicallly anything on section 80 or GKMC

his lyrics have gone down the drain, you can tell he's going nothing meaningful to say anymore (and that's why he doesn't say anything)

plus his beats now are like something thundercat or flying lotus did while drunk as fuck in the studio or something

I can barely listen to Good Kid after being exposed to TPAB. The musicality of it is just so much more detailed and intricate.

Thematically, I dunno. Whatever.

The musicians are incredible together and Kendrick leads them on. It's great.

what does april 7 mean to you then?

it's obvious what happened, they realized this album was going to be a dud like TPAB was and so they pushed it back another week to try and improve it.
>>
April 7th wasn't in reference to a new album. It was in reference to Trump launching the cruise missiles.

>>
>>72021608
Kendrick as well as everyone else at Top Dawg has a hard copy that's released when the album is officially dropped. They don't go and recall all their CDs
>>
>>72021608
>plenty of releases are worked on hours before release
>Mentions 2 things that were only released digitally
Dude you can work on those things hours before release because they're just digital. Kendricks album will probably have a physical release that can't be changed on the spot.
>>
>>72021623
and, if you didn't know, CDs take a while to manufacture and ship to stores.

therefore, the album is supposed to be turned into the label beforehand
>>
>>72021481
If you know anything about the previous heart tracks, on part 3 he dropped the GKMC release date in it.

So it isn't out of the question that people are thinking April 7 is the release date for his new album.

Forgetting all that though, why the fuck would you say "y'all got till April 7 to get your shit together" and not do anything (other than tell people ok it's actually next week)
>>
>>72021150

What? You're taking all of the context out of the album though. Like...
>to pimp a butterfly is about people trying to pimp the experience of transforming
>first song introduces the devil in the form of "Lucy" as well as Wesley Snipes as a person that tried to pimp his growth and was caught by the US government (also the metaphor for Lucy)
>"For Free?" I mean this song and the last set the stage for the album taking place after Kendrick's achieved fame. The first song places the setting and establishes the vices that will plague him over the course of the album. The second song establishes Kendrick's goals and wishes (For Free? is like the ambition statement of the album)
I mean this is all pretty evident by the second song. Do you want me to go on? I'm not really being specific about the themes here, which include self-hate, self-love, money, fame, death, blackness, temptation, and introspection

Dude he made a great album. You're projecting so hard if you think any of those things should have an impact on whether or not you like the music and lyrics. Maybe John Lennon co-opted the entire peace movement. So what? How does that make a difference on how much I like the music? What's really weird is you think that your opinion is somehow educated or unique.

I named some themes like right off the top of my head because someone said that the album is thematically devoid. Do you guys refute this or....what?
>>
>>72022444

It's weird how you think that because art is connected to a current social trend that it is somehow good. You are playing directly into his hands. Once again. Look at the album cover. It is very see through. He may as well have called the album "fuck whitey*
>>
>>72022444

No, he didn't. You can keep being the only person saying that. EVERYONE AGREED about GKMC. so how come it's not the same for TPAB? oh because it's not even close to as good and doesn't follow a theme as well or follow a story so specifically.

I mean do you really want na get into this? Backseat freestyle was probably the standout track from gkmc because it showed how professional he was while at the same time showing how he was still as good as it gets. I never got any similar vibe with TPAB. again, the easiest way to explain it is Eminem syndrome. Uhoh, I got famous and don't have anything to talk about anymore. Better get political.

>>72022471
So...do you not like this album because it's political or because you don't agree with it's politics? It's VERY obvious what the cover and lyrics are supposed to mean- you're not pointing anything new out to me. Is this the first time you've ever heard music with political themes?
>he may as well have called the album "fuck whitey"
yeah I know. I still think it's an amazing album

you sound like one of the people who think game of thrones is deep

stop falling for the hype, TPAB is just a racebaiting exercise
>>
>>72022508
according to metacric and acclaimedmusic.com To Pimp A Butterfly was the most critically acclaimed album of 2015. I'm not sure where you're coming from thinking that I'm the ONLY person that says they like this album. Like...Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and The Source are all contrasting publications and they all claimed TPAB as the best album of 2015. But If you want to know why it wasn't AS agreed upon as GKMC is that TPAB wasn't a traditional hip-hop album filled with radio hits and easy-to-digest hooks.

Backseat Freestyle is amazing but that song was picked apart before the release of GKMC because hardcore hip hop heads thought Kendrick had run out of stuff to say. I mean you're referencing a song where Kendrick is imitating himself as a child because he's not rapping about anything other than making boasts...but you're using it as an example of him being full of statements to make? How can you read the lyrics to "How Much A Dollar Really Cost?" or "You Ain't Gotta Lie" or "For Free?" or even "These Walls" and say Kendrick ran out of stuff to say?
>>
>>72022565

Thank you. If I'm so racist why do I think he could be the best rapper EVER and probably ly was on good kid MAAD City? These people are blm supporters who don't know how an argument or frankly even a conversation works. There is no back and forth. There is just them them them. They just said they would be cool with the album being called "fuck whitey" I think we are done here, no?
>>
>>72022588

Because they are things an average human wants to hear about instead of just black people.
>>
>>72022565
No you're just actually retarded. It's obvious to everyone that TPAB is in no way racist, if it were, people would be fucking crazy for Kendrick's head. Instead, nobody cares, because it isn't racist. Go look up the fucking lyrics, I'm not going to spoon feed you song by song. And don't ever reply to my post ever again until you shake off your retard disease.

not an arguement.

> It's obvious to everyone that TPAB is in no way racist, if it were, people would be fucking crazy for Kendrick's head. Instead, nobody cares, because it isn't racist.
why do you make sweeping generalizations that are obviously untrue when there's multiple people in this thread alone pointing out kendrick's racism? speak for yourself, saying "everyone agrees [put your opinion here]" is wholly unconvincing

>Go look up the fucking lyrics, I'm not going to spoon feed you song by song.
i've listened to the album at least a half dozen times now while reading along with the lyrics, i suggest you do the same.

yeah

no.
and besides that I listen to a lot of music by people whose political statements I don't agree with. It's not really a good reason to not like the music unless there's some real hateful shit in it.

But besides that you kind of need a history less if you think "fuck whitey" has the same type of verbal and political meaning as "fuck niggers"

You make it seem like I love TPAB unconditionally. I would LOVE to talk about what you don't like about TPAB. I love hearing people make good arguments about things that they hate. The problem is you don't have a good argument. Everything you're saying about TPAB makes it sound like you're either just trolling or you made no effort to try and understand the music in the first place.
>>
>>72022737

I don't NEED to try I understand the music you flaming octupussal retard. The music NEEDS to reach me. Which it did f. And it it didn't for most people. So shut the fuck up and realize you are wrong. Tpab was an album for black people, and that's all it was. Kendrick saw an opportunity to get some of that blm March money and took it. Jokes on you. Biggity biggity bang nigga

The thing is that you're trying to argue with people on the internet about your opinion. I can't argue with what your opinion is but if you try to state your opinion as an objective fact you're going to sound like a dumbass. For example:
>TPAB was an album for black people
I keep stating that I enjoy this album deeply and I'm a white person. If you're trying to say you're objectively right on the matter, you've proven that you're objectively wrong.
>>
>>72022789

Somewhat agreed but since Kendrick's music and politics are so focused on where he comes from the relativist view of racism isn't very illogical
>>

it doesn't matter where he comes from, this very new 21st century postmodern revision of racism literally makes no sense. racism is racism, even when it comes from kendrick.

>>

In that regard didn't Eminem and Kendrick go in opposite direction?
Eminem started making pop hits with Rihanna and Chris Brown on the hook and Kendrick....started making political hip hop jazz with Thundercat, Flying Lotus and George Clinton

Dude can I see some of your reviews, been trying to find a good reviewer I can trust. Fantano only held my interest for so long.
>>
>>72022958
>How is there a revision and how would that make no sense?
'everyday racism' (let's call it) was replaced overshadowed by racism embedded into a power structure, this is a very new idea that came with the postmodern revision, and not something you will find anywhere let's say, pre-1950s

you can read foucault if you want to understand where this came from
>>
>>72023001

No. They both lost their initial touch, reach, and in general talent. Now they apply what they have left to stay in the spotlight.

Why are you so stupid?
>>
>>72023001
>Eminem started making pop hits with Rihanna and Chris Brown on the hook and Kendrick
you completely skipped the political eminem phase of the eminem show and encore. kendrick will be headed towards the pop hits with rihanna and chris brown probably after this upcoming album

you can at least try to not be so intellectually dishonest
>>
>>72023005
That SHOULD make sense. It should. There is no such thing as race and we're all humans. But historically it's pretty obvious that's not always true.
Black Lives Matter is literally just a group that at their core (there are always stupid radicalists, that goes without saying) just a civil rights group.
Whereas many pro-white groups go hand in hand with racial cleansing and nationalism.
Do you see what I'm saying? Or are you just going to call me a dumb nigger despite the fact that I'm a white guy?
>>

decent-tier releases (7/10):
antwon ep
kanye's TLOP

clams casino
czarface
Ka
Ras G/Ras G & The Koreatown Oddity

meh-tier (6/10):
aesop rock
bankroll mafia

black milk/nat turner
drake
elzhi
g perico
holy smoke
knxwledge
kool keith
mac miller
schoolboy q
xavy rusan

forgettable (<5/10):
asap ferg
ATCQ
danny brown
de la soul
atmosphere
chance the rapper
clipping
flatbush zombies
frank ocean
future
gucci mane
isaiah rashad
kendrick lamar
lil durk

the one he took its title from, it's nearly the same bassline and he just used more arrhythmic drumming, even the distorted background sounds are there

>TELL ME that sound isn't instantly memorable

I love Closer and I know it's similarities but to me Atrocity Exhibition (the song) sounds nothing like The Downward Spiral. I agree with you as far as I can tell that the influence is there but it's far more different than just having arrhythmic drumming. It sounds like it was made in a swamp and the bass sounds like a steel pedal guitar. Plus Danny's voice just makes the whole track wild. It sounds like Joy Division if Joy Division ever made a song that sounds like a Swans track with a Keak da Sneak feature.
