His voice has always been up and down. I saw him do Pet Sounds live and he struggled a lot, then a few years later I saw Smile and he was great again.

saw him on the pet sounds tour last summer, and it was pretty clear he was only there for appearances. the band carried him through that set 100%.

I got a ticket to Levitation last year, and Pet Sounds in its entirety was one of the biggest reasons.

After seeing youtube videos of him looking miserable and sounding even worse though, I had already decided I'd be seeing other bands during their set.

Then Levitation was canceled, which still hurts, but that's not the point of my anecdote.

It's a good thing he's kept most of the singing on this tour to Al and his son. Unfortunately he insists on singing the biggest songs like God Only Knows and it doesn't go well.
