in fact music is in total stagnation, and i'm not even one of those le wrong generation people, i listen to mostly modern music
>>
>>71855197
The worst is when you find a new modern band/artist you like and then realise they're in their mid 40s. It's superficial, I know, but whatever

>he thinks vaporwave is a serious genre
>>
>>71855521
this is more just a question of language, not musical content
we have so many blanket genres that like a completely new style could just be called post-rock or art rock or experimental-something, or worse yet, be reduced to a combination of two or three things
>not serious
that doesnt invalidate their existence. it's not hard to just take something seriously, that's just a figure of speech

how about just making the music you want to make or listen to the music you want to listen to, explore the past or different cultures if you get bored with american contemporary, rather than trying to push or follow a vague notion of "zeitgeist"?

ITT: /mu/ assumes everyone pops out of the womb ready to be a great artist

There almost no great people under the age of 25 PERIOD. Every artist has a long growth and development period.

Far Side Virtual is not fucking Vaporwave. It predates the genre even, it would be like calling Led Zeppelin metal or any Funk artist Hip Hop.
>>
>>71855716
Historically this is untrue. Most influential composers were writing some of their best work as teens, and in some fringe cases like Mozart, or children.
>>
>>71855762
You're missing the entire point of FSV if you think anything that could possibly resemble Muzak is what Ferraro wanted.

He explicitly used MIDI and Windows/phone sounds.
>>
>>71855787
>Most influential composers were writing some of their best work as teens, and in some fringe cases like Mozart, or children.
yes and? shit changes in modern times. they didn't have the internet and 4chan to ruin their lives.
>>
>>71855787
If you're talking about pre-20th century yes, because the standard of living was garbage and you had to get started before syphilis took you like Mozart and Schubert.
Most composers don't actually hit their style and their form until 30's.
>>
King Giz?
>>
>who is Tyler the creator?
>>
>>71855796
The tools for songwriting have only gotten easier, the idea that "the internet" is what killed this trend is bullshit.

A more likely cause is that sometime in the 20th century the concept of art changed from "making things look nice and fit x aesthetic" to "muh feels paint splatter on canvas", which was reflected in pop music too, as virtuosic genres started to wane significantly in popularity. It didn't help that the more experimental classical music at the time was turning off audiences either.
>>
>>71855902
What does your pleb taste in art have to do with the discussion at hand?
>>
>>71855197
You people always act like great artists come out, put out an album, and then the next day everyone is immediately influenced, the world is a brand new place, and music is instantly different. It takes time before we realize who will truly be influential.
>>
>>71855834
Is he impactful ? I wouldnt say that. He is good tho.
>>
>>71855931
in the hip hop community he is
>>
>>71855793
Using default MIDI soundfonts isn't and wasn't new or challenging.

and sure, it might've been the first album to sample windows sounds, but using odd samples like that aren't all that strange. Like look at Boards of Canada using 80s Sesame Street samples.
>>
>>71855919
Art education, at least prior to universityhas shifted from "learn to paint like the greats" to "all of it is good no matter what", which is why most young artists suck imo.And where did I imply anything about my musical taste?
>>
>>71855627
good post
>>
>>71855646
lol nope
>>
>>71855962
Explain how using MIDI, cliche sounds is not inherently a new conceptual device for FSV.
>>71855990
1. Postmodern art is great.
2. That has nothing to do with artists starting later in age
>>
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7ihf30cncE

whats my genre /mu?
>>
>>71855252
you might be a pleb
>>
>>71856044
I'm not talking about what the album 's concept was, I'm saying using default MIDI soundfonts isn't special.

If I started making music that was supposed to encapsulate the feeling of sucking a dick, and I used samples from porn and used samples from someone eating spaghetti, it would be unique in terms of samples but nothing else. Sure the samples and concept are original, but take those away and you're left with nothing.

but FSV isn't vaporwave anyway, so your original argument is flawed to begin with.

what ferraro tried to achieve with frv was to reproduce the muzak of the early internet days, 90s capitalism, e-commerce, etc. circa 1988-1996
i suspect i know more about vaporwave than you that defend this pathetic genre
