It's weird, I'm not too heavily into metal as a whole but I do have a strong love for the 90s death-doom/gothic metal acts like Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Katatonia and Anathema. Like, Brave Murder Day and The Angel And The Dark River are 2 of my all-time favorite albums with shit like Icon and The Silent Enigma not all that far behind. I dunno, that particular style just really does it for me.

Sunbather by Deafheaven is probably the better album, but New Bermuda is also outstanding and has a much harder, traditionally metal sound.

To get out of my scene phase I had to condition myself to dislike all metal.
