What does /mu/ think of this musical? My instincts are to hate it because normies like it, but I can't deny that this is a pretty cool song.

It feels like an after school special from the late 80s.
gay niggers prancing around dressed as the slave owners who built this country for the enjoyment of Yuppies who voted for Hillary.
I assure, you no lowerclass person besides maybe an online journalists who makes clickbait and gets paid in pennies that got free tickets has ever watched that garbage
Good music
my mom loves this shit
it's shit
Only saw 1 clip of it, but Miranda's voice is grating

kek I had to write a paper on this in my english class. My uni is is probably the most liberal out there and they loved this, calling it modern shakespeare and lots of other stupid shit. Whether it's good or not, I'll never be able to appreciate it just because of that. Still think its shit though
>>71793536
My instincts are to hate it because it's one of the worst fucking things I've ever listened to. The music itself actually managed to be more retarded and corny than the entire fucking premise of the musical.
God, I hate musicals so much.
>>71793536
>Has an all minority cast
>incorporates rap into soundtrack
Still the most corny white musical you'll hear.
Is this the only self-aware musical?
no one here will admit as to liking it but imo some songs i.e. room where it happened are pretty good

>that intro

It's a callback to the first song in the show.

In terms of Cocteau Twins albums it's somewhere between Head over Heels and Milk and Kisses.

and that''s why it's just your opinion

book of mormon?
Phantom of the opera will forever be the best musical
>>71793536
Ludicrous crap which in fifteen years' time nobody will be able to believe was ever taken seriously. It'll be like going to see Blue Man Group.
>>71794379
No, every musical ever written is self-aware. You mean "self-loathing". Every musical since about 1969 has been self-loathing, unfortunately.
>>71793536
i haven't seen the musical but ever since my friend played the the first song i've been absolutely addicted to it. is there a place where i can download or stream the entire musical?
>>71797032
Not legally. The whole show gets uploaded, and promptly deleted from YouTube every once in a while.
I saw it live a couple years ago. Expected it to be really corny, but it was actually really good. I had never heard the soundtrack beforehand, but I imagine not seeing it live kind of reduces the effect. But if you ever get a chance to actually see it, I'd recommend it
>>71793536
>My instincts are to hate it because normies like it
please be bait
>>71793789
my mom is a republican and loves this shit
>>71798338
>recommends to see live threatre live
>>71798432
As opposed to just listening to the soundtrack, which is how most people experience it
>>71798338
How much did you have to pay?
>>71798317
that's fucking stupid, i live outside the US so there's no way i could see it live, i would happily pay for a bluray or something like that, too bad.
>>71798455
The whole show has been officially filmed, but for a documentary on PBS. I'm sure that the show will get released on Blu-ray at some point. You must understand, no musical in our lifetimes has ever been this popular, they're always sold out a year in advance on Broadway. They're doing amazing business, so why change?

Please be discreet with this I don't want this to be deleted. And as an aside there is some great porn here too.
As for the musical, I absolutely loved it. Some clever songwriting (there's load of references if you're a hip hop fan), all the actors are absolutely great (even if Miranda is ironically far less compelling/charismatic than everyone else) and the choregraphy and the use of the stage is absolutley masterful.
Favorite songs: Guns and Ship, History has its eyes on you, The Room where it happens (THE show stopper), All the cabinet Battles

Blue Man Group is legit

>(there's load of references if you're a hip hop fan)
>mfw Thomas Jefferson quotes Biggie Smalls in a cabinet meeting

In the heights was better IMO, I'm pretty impressed with how he wrote composed and directed the whole thing. Call me gay but I cry to In the Heights whenever whenever I listen to it.
Looks like the type of thing that normies think is cool because it has hip-hop and not traditional musical songs. Musicals that try hard to cater to people who don't like musicals usually ages horribly.

My parents got it so we could see it with my grandparents. Don't remember the exact amount, but, as expected, it's a pretty big investment. I recommend it but it's not something everyone is in a position to enjoy unfortunately, so if it's gonna take a dent out of your money, make sure you really really want to see it
