"the ponderous ravings of a talentless hack"

The residents and le japan noise rock are just fine examples of that. talentless with gimmicks and pretty images.

>>
>>71690962
Uhhh so what do you think people should listen to?
>>
>>71691558
Only two things on that list ever applied to me.

It's just basically something I've noticed after lurking for a few years. You pick it up in the first few months, I assume most grow out of it afterwards and move on to something new and develop further, others settle in that shit and never leave. In time your average basic /mu/tant described in that list is more basic and uninteresting than a top 40 fan.
>>
>>71691574
something with which there is nothing wrong
>>
>>71691574
You know those RYM accounts with a shit ton of ratings of world music

Something like that

>your average basic /mu/tant described in that list is more basic and uninteresting than a top 40 fan
only because you never get out of /mu/

>>71691699
Its insincere

Its about pasty face teens from the suburb who never been out of the city limits before using brown people's cultures to boost their egos
>>
>>71691744
So I should only listen to music released by people within my own culture? Seems needlessly limited.
>>
>>71691667
No, it's just they have absolutely no unique taste.

You ask a /mu/tant for a rec or some music question, they'll give you a very pretty response which if you actually look into yourself, will realize it's just taken from the first three paragraphs of the wikipedia article on the matter. For music recs, it's ALWAYS something that's positively rated on RYM/critically received. There's literally no substance or unique opinion to it.
>>
>>71691751
how is it insincere?
>Its about pasty face teens from the suburb who never been out of the city limits before using brown people's cultures to boost their egos
or maybe they like it?
>>
>>71691772
You feel the need to ask permission/validation from an anonymous stranger to like something. come on man. people like you make up 99% of RYM which is why the community is pure cancer.
>>
>>71691809
Are you fucking retarded? It was a rhetorical question to point out how stupid he was being. Pull your head out of your ass and stop looking for conflict.
>>
>>71691751
there's nothing wrong with it if you at least like some of the stuff

if you have dozens of pretty ratings letting everyone know you, yes in fact, listened to shit form every country or culture, then yeah you're a lame poseur. the only way to be 100% sure of it, if you were to take away any platform which lets you tell everyone about how you supposedly listen to that stuff, would you still do it?
>>
>>71690734
what if i
>use rym to explore genres / discographies
>use lastfm
>make charts to get recs
>play 3 instruments
>collect vinyl but stray away from colored shit and bad represses you can find used
>>
>>71690962
What does it say about your taste when much of that list is too challenging for you?
>>
>>71691784
It's almost like things are popular for a reason..
>>
idk how much music you have but once you have over arbitrary number let's say 1000 albums digitally and a couple hundred cds it gets really hard to keep track of everything in your collection, what you've listened to and what you haven't, what you're planning to listen to, upcoming releases. RYM and last.fm are great resources for this. It pretty much just shows you care about keeping up with music, otherwise you have to follow dozens of music news sites which have editorial concerns that mean they can't report on everything objectively
>>
>>71691784
yeah because they're shut-ins so they get their opinions from the internet, where they become ingrained in some social circle which ends up as the main influence on their perspective because that's just what people in groups do
>>
>>71691835
What do ratings have to do with anything? If someone likes something they like it, not everyone uses music as a way to show their individuality.
>>
>>71691824
sure it was. I got you senpai

>>71691879
what a toxic and sheltered outlook. you ever talk to any "basic" person, ever? they have unique opinions on "Generic" things. /mu/tants and 4chan, the other way around.
>>
>>71691841
You do you.
>>
>>71691911
>not everyone uses music as a way to show their individuality.
Wishful thinking. 99% of RYM does. Notice how most rym/lastfm users are either average or below average in looks? If they were better looking, they'd be shilling themselves on facebook or instagram for likes. they lack that, so they individualize themselves in different ways.
>>
>>71691095

Who?

So not a poseur, phew.
>>
>>71691942
In what way does someones looks have to deal with their musical tastes? And how they rate an album on some stupid website? People usually like things or they don't.
>>
>>71691751
you know about that ego thing, generally i believe there's no 100% true sincerity, there's always an ulterior motive to everything, or even various ones, even ones you might not be aware of, because people are a multitude of different motivations
the urge to boost your ego for the sake of self-acceptance and for approval are "sincere", they are true, you can't do much about that, you'll find it in yourself, the only option is you'll have to learn to accept that, so you'll learn to accept others
but deep down you don't want to do that at all, you just wanna keep feeling righteous on 4chan, right?
>>
>>71691913
>you ever talk to any "basic" person, ever? they have unique opinions on "Generic" things.
you mean normies? yeah because their social circle is more open i guess. i don't see the value in "unique" special snowflake opinions on trivial matters though. a lot of the time a "unique" opinion is just an uneducated one anyways

>>
People who listen to popular music only listen to music to be part of a conversation, see for example the celebrity worship of popular musicians. The celebration of their characters at the expense of their music shows that their fans aren't really there for the music. So they're no different from internet users who get all of their opinions from online music communities. They're doing the exact same thing, on a different level, one that you could say is lower or you could say is deeper
>>
>>71692248

Never said that.

Your opinion matters alot less though. Not to mention you just come as a petty talentless consumer. There's nothing separating the average RYM poseur from a top 40 fan in terms of talent, creativity, or any of that shit of substance.

>they're better than everyone on this board because they dont listen to /mu/core
arguably listening to obscure music is better as in more useful to /mu/ as a tool for discovery and discussion too as it gives you a wider frame of reference as to what really stands out from what
i don't think anyone ever claimed to be a better person for it
at most they just see it as new people stepping into their in-group, only picking out the most popular and obvious stuff, but still claiming to be a part of it
sort of like gentrification
>>
>>71692402

It's not that. It's just how big of a cliche can you get? You go to philosophy clubs, smoke weed after, and judge people in the process. You're a walking meme.

Maybe I wouldn't mind if you didn't go and feel superior in the process.. There's something so hateable about someone that's basic (like you) that still feels superior enough to go and judge others condescendingly (also you)
>>
>>71692627
I only mentioned it because it's important to the story, pleb. Steve Reich is really good but if you make your friends listen to him after smoking weed then you're a tool. Also, had to mention philosophy club because it establishes the logic behind why this annoying person would even be with us. Also, because we watched 'Waking Life' in it on his suggestion, and it fucking sucked and I was really mad about it.
