Its likable because its designed simply so its easily accessible. Sure if you like simple music go ahead but for me and clearly alot of people on /mu/, we want music that can be remembered for years because of how vivid it is rather than to be forgotten in about 5-10 years.

Another thing to point out is that, the songs themselves dont really have much substance. The structure of each one direction song is the same:
>catchy intro "riff" (hate that word)
>Verse - Chorus - Verse - Chorus - Alt Verse - 2X chorus - end
>maybe some kind of minor chords before the chorus
>love lyrics
