How come there are so few women who listen to jazz (especially if we are talking about bebop and hardbop)?
>>
> implying you know women
>>
For the same reason that there are so few men who listen to it.
>>
>>71641816
If women aren't musicians, they don't really care about or have any need of deeper understanding of music.
>>
Few people in general these days listen to anything outside of pop and hip hop.

And i'm guessing you don't actually know any women.
>>
>>71642185
ffs
>>
>>71641975
There are many more men listening to jazz than women, not an argument.
>>
>>71642340
Just let your shitty thread die, homes
>>
Let's be honest Jazz has been historically pretty misogynistic.

That's changed as of the new century thankfully but you can't ignore that troubled past
>>
>>71641816
this rich girl i know who was born in russia but her dad became a rich businessman over some shady deal she told me. is very into jazz at my campus. in fact she runs the jazz club here and plays the sax

also this>>71642355

La La land might spark some new interest
>>
>>71642340
There are more men listening to music than women in general.

There are more men than women listening to almost every genre you could name outside of pop, country, and maybe rock.
>>
My gf likes jazz when i play it but never really listens to it
>>
Adele is jazz
That girl from come away with me is jazz as well
And remember Amy Winehouse's was jazz as well.

And obviously jazzy hip hop and jazzy pop has always been a thing but it does have some different aura and its not as popular as it once was. But in sum, people will listen to it, even if avant-garde free form drone out of tune sax improvisation is probably ran out of fashion today, i'd say the genre as a whole it's doing just about fine.

this poster is a woman pretending to be a man
>>
Women only serve to cook, breed and sometimes sing. That's all.
>>
>>71643248
I wish I could. Other female jazz musicians almost exclusively play smooth jazz and jazz pop. This also applies to:
>>71643265
>>
>>71643265
Dorothy Ashby then... and err... nope thats it.
>>
There are actually plenty of female peeps who listen to jazz (prob fewer than men, sure, but who cares) but it's the females you, OP, probably don't want to talk to because you have a stick up your rectum.
>>
>>71645723
This
"why don't the girls that I watch in porn like jazz and like me?
>>
Women are more social than men. They're hardwired that way. This bleeds into their taste in the arts. I actually know a lot of girls who like Afro-jazz, swing, cool jazz, etc., and it's because that's all good, cool, social music. They like that stuff for the same reason they like everything from house music to pop divas.

Bebop isn't functional. It's meant to be actively listened to, not for dancing, socializing, or being put in the background. It's asocial music in a way comparable to anything from noise rock to progressive metal.
>>
>>71645850
Show me 10 dudes you know who don't flock this board, that are seriously into Bebop. Please.
>>
>>71645980
I live in Boston. Are you fucking serious?
>>
>>71646062
So you're at fucking Berklee or around it and you want to tell me you don't really see girls slobbing the clarinets, etc. ?

You've gotta be joking, especially with that insecure of an original post. Jesus christ.
>>
>>71643265
Nina played Piano.
>>
>>71646098
I'm not the OP. I'm just explaining why some types of music might be more popular with women than others. Again, like I said, I do know women who are into jazz, even if bebop isn't the genre they don't normally talk about. You're upset I didn't jump on your bandwagon of attacking the OP, and that's fucking sad and childish.
>>
>>71643265
Alice Coltrane?
>>
>>71642355
Jazz is anymore so than any other genre. How many female classical composers or female delta blues musicians can you name? There's a few but 99% of the musicians in the genres are male.
>>
>>71646117
Ah yes, everyone remembers her for her piano soloing.
>>71646225
Classical Music had the same problem until post-60's when it gradually got better.
>>
>>71646222
Oh, yes. Your thoughts on Esperanza Spalding?
>>
>>71646426
I'm not the same guy. That was my first post in the thread.

I'll listen to some of her stuff and get back to you.
>>
>>71641816
Most people I know who like jazz played an instrument or are a musician. Those two categories tend to have more men than women.
>>
>>71643025
carla bley, the list goes on…
>>
>>71642827
Terrific fucking bait
>>
>>71643265
Its not his fault no bitches ever wanted to take the time to get gud at instruments. I mean fuck do you really think there was a conspiracy to keep women away from playing trumpet or sax lol
>>
>>71647041
But aren't most jazz singers women?
>>
>>71646282
More stupidity. No one remembers her for her soloing because she didnt fuckin have the chops simple as that. She accompanied herself well though
>>
>>71647358
He was ironic.
