The point is to meet people because you're upset and lonely (in the case of the person I was actually replying to).

The question you have to ask yourself is do you really think that you're so unique, such a special snowflake, that no one else could possibly relate to you and enjoy your company?

Of course you're going to get turned down. That's a standard life experience and I highly encourage you to take it far less seriously, because in reality if they never speak to you again you never have to speak to them again either so who gives a shit.
