This just clicked and I haven't stopped listening to it for the past week. Where do I go from here in shoegaze?
you need to go deeper
lsd and the search for god
>>71620375
seconding LSD
then Souvlaki/Nowhere
then You Made Me Realise, Isn't Anything and M B V
then Susurrate
then In The Presence of Nothing
You wait a long time until you forget what it sounds like.
Then try it again.
You don't.
everything else in shoe gaze is like a rip off.

I've been giving this album a few listens but it doesn't click. What am I missing?
>>71620796

my nigga
thorn is the greatest song of all time
Asubi Seksu
>>71620796
it's OK not to like it
>>71620796
the rejection of a girl you thought loved you back
>>71620862
I've really grown to love it desu. It has all the sunshine catchiness of Sunny Sundae Smile but the noise is a lot more refined and gives it a darker edge
>>71620871
I wouldn't mind not liking it, but it's been discussed so much I figured I'd try to get into it.
>>71620375
Go on
>>71620908
Just keep listening to it, but dont force it. It'll click eventually
You don't go anywhere. That is the best shoegaze can be.
loveless might just be the greatest musical achievement in history
RIDE: nowhere
LUSH: gala
SMASHING PUMPKINS: siamese dream
Sadly Loveless is possibly the most unique album of all time and there isn't really anywhere you can go from here. The whole Shoegaze genre is built by people trying to replicate this album but nobody can achieve the same feeling that Kevin Shields managed to on Loveless. Even the other MBV records don't live up to it.
>>71620886
This. You can pretty much project whatever romantic dissatisfaction you have onto this album and it'll make it better.
>>71620886
fucking this
Not even joking
>>71621576
Yup
Nothing in the shoegaze genre comes close to loveless
>>71620375
>tfw MBV has never clicked for me and just sounds decent
Loveless is my favorite of the genre but my favorite /shugazi/ albums lean towards the noise pop/neo-psych side of the spectrum. I find them more inventive, anyway.
A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Sea When Absent
Mercury Rev - Boces
Swirlies - They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days in the Glittering World of the Salons
The Jesus & Mary Chain - Psychocandy
slowdive is better imo
>>71621987
get really involved with a girl because you're confused about your life, then come out of the confusion
it'll click then
>>71620834
This this this.
>>71622314
both are good for completely different reasons and should not be compared ty vv much
practically in two different genres
>>71620796
spend a week on /r9k/ then try it again.

ringo deathstarr isnt good and will never be good, stop
>>71620796
I don't know man. It just might take a bit of time. The drugs aren't necessary though. I found it way more interesting after watching this.

It kind of opened my mind up to what the guitar is capable of.
Personally I think LSD and the search for god self titled is the best shoegaze album
>>71620886
>>71620796
I don't understand how this album "clicks" for people, I kinda just enjoyed it right off the bat.
Then again, I listened to a lot of mainstream alternative rock as a teen, and after I got into shoegaze I started to realize just how heavy of an influence bands like MBV had on 90s radio rock. I think I probably had a dormant taste for it all along, seeing as how I remember particularly enjoying songs like Cherub Rock by The Smashing Pumpkins and Be Quiet and Drive by Deftones as a kid.
Asobi Seksu is pretty good.
>>71621897
this shit sucks, nigga
quique is a superior shoegays album
The future of Shoegaze.
>>71623960
you just gotta be depresssed

>>71620886

>>71620375
>when MBV clicks for the first time
I wanna go baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack :_:
>>71620375

dozens of listens
watching Lost in Translation helps too
>>71620440
I love Coaltar of the Deepers so much... It feels so good to cry when you get too into it and just simply close your eyes in a dark room while listening to it on max volume with earphones...
>>71620413
I thought you meant that literally
Didn't know it was an album name kek
>>71620440
>>71620442
ye to these boys
i wish i could go back in time and have this album click for me again. honestly one of the greatest times for me listening to music was when this album clicked for me the first time. it was like entering a whole new world.
also anyone in here saying you gotta use drugs to get it to click is a fucking pedestrian
